I've noticed confusion between owners of the Le Paul wallet by Vernet and those who have one before Vernet started making them. The older versions use standard envelopes (3 5/8" by 6 1/2"). These envelopes can also be bought with a window so that the audience can see the back of the card before it's revealed. The problem with the Vernet version, which is the one that I own, is that these standard size envelopes are about an inch too big. Finding the next best envelope size is much more difficult. 3 5/8" by 5 1/8" are the best I can find. However, these sizes don't seem to have versions with a window. Having a window isn't crucial for my needs, but I would prefer if I could have envelopes with one. Does anyone know of a site that sells ones with a window?

Mentalism being one of my interest involves the use of envelopes.
So I have research a very good source. GO HERE: https://www.envelopes.com/ If they don't have it, they will make. Or ask! |

I own the Jeff Busby LePaul Wallet, from the late 1980's. All LePaul wallets used the short envelopes. The name started with a "B", but I have forgotten the full name. These envelopes are sold at high class stationary stores, and don't forget to seal the envelope the wax. They sell the seal and and sealing wax as a kit.
Using a window envelope kills the ending of the card to wallet in sealed envelope. The whole reason for this is because, the spectator tears the rest of the envelope open, if you wish him to do so, after the magician partially tears the envelope across the end and hands the envelope to the spectator to finish. Most magicians think it is good to tear the end across and leave it sticking up still attached to the envelope, and just have the spectator remove the card and verify it is their selected card. My brther-in-law was so impressed by the effect when his family on vacation in Florida, went to a restaurant witnessed the effect himself, he brought the envelope home with him, just to show the whole family. That is the impact of the LePaul Wallet. I did not want to spoil it for him, as I never seen him so excited about anything. Buy the way, if you read the LePaul book, it is described originally using just a small stack of envelopes. You can use any size envelope you wish, and if you want to kill the ending, use an envelope with a window. If you want to use a standard envelope then use the Terry Seabooke wallet. |

I have the Terry Seabooke wallet, lost the instructions years ago, but I thought it was a top loader (pay envelope type).

He basically shows it's in his wallet, then unzips the compartment, shows the enveloped with the back of the card in the window, turns over the enveloped to show the seal and then let's the spectator tear it open (he starts the tear though). I figured maybe he does that to build up the anticipation perhaps? Who knows? I would assume, as you said, it's more surprising to not have a window whereas the other way is less of a surprise despite the buildup. For years I've done a card straight to wallet, no envelope, and that always surprised everyone. Hopefully, I'll be able to do this version once things reopen again over here in Montreal.

It even came with British brown letter envelopes. |

In my opinion, the window envelope increases anticipation of the ending, and also relieves the assisting spectator of any suspicion that the magician will try something "funny" to get the card in the envelope--she/he can see the card is in the envelope, and they are much less likely to turn the envelope over or have suspicions as they open it. I can let go very early in the tear:

BTW, There is little or no "surprise" once the wallet is pulled out. Everyone "knows" the card will be in the wallet. Sometimes people will even say something about it "must be in there." Surprise is the least effective kind of magic. Anticipation of the impossible is much stronger.
The time before the reveal can be used for building anticipation, and for emphasizing the picture the audience remembers of the conditions--In my WALLET...inside this zippered compartment...inside this sealed envelope--NOTORIZED! |

Pop, what a great routine, and timely interaction with the audience. I liked the last moves in the ambitious card, very nice. I was fooled like the people there. You should make a download for it, quick and dirty and I will buy it
Thank you ... Pablo |

The Card Magic of LePaul is available in pdf form for download from Chris Washuber's great Lybrary site here: Card Magic of LePaul (PDF)($9 download) Looks like the card in sealed envelope is Chapter 31.

I still don't have envelopes with a window that would fit in my LePaul wallet, however as Pop Haydn said, the anticipation really revs up the audience for the reveal of what they already know is coming. I bought the download and the live Penguin lecture. Pop's thinking on magic is really good in my opinion. He's changed how I approach certain tricks such as the color changing knives.

My Le Paul was stolen recently so I am in the market and I came across this thread. Just need to find one with non-leather guides, any help is appreciated.
My search here lead me to purchasing Whit's routine. Every time I get one of his routines there is a little gem in it which I think, "this is so golden," and this is no exception. For the envelope, I was bouncing off the walls when I saw Whit's setup, and I've been doing this for 20 years with a regular envelope but rest assured that when I get a new wallet I will be switching to the window envelope. Maybe you all are far savvier than me, but this had me floored. Solved all my problems, my kids are talking to me again, my wife made me dinner and my dog greeted me at the door--I'm telling you, it is that amazing. |

Is there a page dedicated to wallets, like there is for Cups & Balls?
There SHOULD be. I've got, maybe, 10-12 wallets (all quite lovely) and I have NO idea who made them or what they're called!
