So far when I have been busking, I have just started performing a routine and wait for people to stop (which can be very fast or slow, depending on how the day is).
I am starting to think it may be better to first call out some lines and get someone to stop, and then start performing once I have someone. Before I try it though, I want to develop a decent amount of material, so I'm not just repeating the same 3 lines until someone stops.

I have started trying to write some, but my progress isn't great so far. Does anyone have advice on writing lines that could be helpful?

Also, if anyone has any lines they would like to share, either original or stock lines (Stop and watch the show. I've seen it before and it's really good!), you are more than welcome to!

I had been considering some money related lines, but that's probably better than mine as it's right to the point.
I am probably overthinking things, but could getting a crowd by motivating them to want money, backfire at the end when you are asking them to give up money?
Occasionally I have audience members ask me to give them money at the end (usually younger teenagers), but more often they ask me to give them my props.

Start talking loudly, don't stop until you get a show. repeat what works.

what I've learned from reading "how to stop a crowd" advice is, literally anything works if you do it well.

what I've learned from trying to stop crowds.myself is, the more I lean into what I'm doing, the better it gets.

Anything "WILL" work, if you have three important components at play.

1. If you're interested in what you're doing, other people will be interested in it.

2. You have to have confidence that emulates to thee passersby to the point that they cannot keep walking until they find out what you're up to.

3. "YOU" have to be interesting yourself.

This is a double edged sword because if you do everything right and they stop, you better be able to hold them, because if you lose one person, for even one second, they will walk away...

And when they walk away, all your work will have been in vain because EVERYBODY else will walk away with them.

I agree, it’s all about HOW you do something.

You have to be interested in them as much as you want them to be interested in what you’re doing.

I find that every funny line makes people laugh but that’s it, they don’t always stop.

Just look at them, say hi how are you, come watch this trick. And don’t start your trick until you’ve instructed them to stand where you need them to stand. I like to chat them up a little bit “you all from out of town? You drove down just because you heard I’m here today?” Then I start my first trick and if I get a crowd I do my finale.

That’s just an example, its direct and it works better than any gazzo like in my experience.
Your core group has to be engaged and having fun, their energy will spread to others that join. Once you have a good crowd and you do your finale and you do everything right, you’ll have a fat hat.

Come and watch a show, it’s better than drinking alcohol

PLEASE DON'T SAY "free beer".

All the advise above is very valid.
Talking to your audience and showing true interest works.
Please refrain from getting in the habit of saying TRICK.
You might say here is a piece of magic.

Repetition, volume, attitude. The more and the better you make use of these, the better the line! What that line is is up to you...

Fill yourself with life and energy and you’ll become a magnet.
Lines are good, but the right energy is essential.

I use endless banana's. It's great. So I bark out a show will be starting soon and ruffly explain my show and put out my hook that they will see the most dangours thing there going to see today. What happens is it catches two people eyes they watch a few times and work it out. As they do this I have the next group watching I chat with the first and joke about them getting it. I then bring them together and keep going till I have 10-15 people now I pull in and start to build. Also I just talk with my crowd about how useful buttons on pockets are, why dose one sandle wear out before the other and even done a poll on fav pizzas.
Enjoy your magic,

and let others enjoy it as well!
