I posted this on an other part of the Café and got no reply.
Can anybody here help? >Stirring is a great trick, and is pretty much as described in the advertisement. Works with straws that you will be able to find many places. All you need is the straw, and good presentational skills. Very clever principle behind this.< In the UK we don't have plastic 'straws'; we have plastic 'sticks' They are solid, not tubular You could not sip a drink using a UK coffee stirrer. Can anybody tell me if they are the same item KK is talking about? TJ |

I don't know what you mean? You can find straws in the UK. Party accessories have straws in the supermarkets. Also try coffee shops like Starbucks...Go in, buy a coffee and grab 50 straws if you need to stock up! Bars also have straws.
Anyway, I don't know if that answers anything. I don't have the manuscript you re referring to, so... I hope I helped. m I c |

I don't believe you said we don't have straws in the UK. That's the funniest thing I have heard in ages. We don't have cups either. We drink out of our hands.

Wow,
We do that here in Taiwan too, but only the left hand. James Quote: On 2004-06-11 08:50, DangerMouse wrote:

Thanks for the help (?).
You've made a happy man feel very old. Perhaps you did not notice the punctuation marks around straws and sticks? More likely you do not have the manuscript which shows that your common sense is better developed than your sense of humour. LOL Is the handful of coffee a marketed item? If so give me the sauce. Is it one that you do in your own hand or in the spectator's? If anybody (UK?) knows the effect I mentioned from Miraculous Ploys and understands my problem, can he let me know? I don't want to reveal the effect by saying too much. >In the UK we don't have plastic 'straws'; we have plastic 'sticks' They are solid, not tubular You could not sip a drink using a UK coffee stirrer. Can anybody tell me if they are the same item KK is talking about?< Hopeless but happy TJ |

I don't have the manuscript either, but I think I know what you're referring to, Teejay.
Over here in the US, we have very small, narrow straws that are used as stirrers. You can suck through them, but you don't get too much as the opening is only a couple millimeters in diameter. They're usually double-barreled, also. Is this what you're wondering about, Teejay? If the solid coffee stirrers can be used in the same way in this effect? If so, I don't know the answer (not having read the manuscript), unfortunately. |

I have the manuscript and believe that silverfire9 is talking about the item in question. I picked a couple up over the weekend at a coffee vending area and found them to work quite well. They are "double barreled" little straw-like things that are not solid.
If you get your hands on one, carefully bend it so that it has a curve in it. The rest is explained in Ploys. By the way, I've been looking for these little things for a while. Usually, coffee houses seem to have wood stir sticks or single-barreled mini-straws (like they put in mixed drinks around here). Because of this, it really limits where the effect can be done. It seems like I used to see them everywhere. Wouldn't you know it! |

Siverfire and Nicholas, thanks a lot
The only coffee stirrers I have seen in the UK are solid not hollow I'll keep my eyes open for a straw type one or experiment Or better still, forget it It's hardly a Mind Blower, is it? ROTFL TJ |
