Hey Guys,

I've been "lurking" here for quite some time. There is so much great info in the archives that I haven't had to ask any questions yet.

OK, I have a stage illusion show I am putting the finishing touches on.

I'm looking for a mentalism routine to add and break up the pace a little. Keep in mind this will be for an illusion show, on stages, in gym's, in banquet halls, etc.

I am considering the "Clock of Life" found at http://www.hocus-pocus.com

Has anybody heard of this? What's the scoop.

Also, any other mentalism routines I should consider?

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi there, and welcome!

I am certain about that Clock of Life is a great effect.

I have a couple of objections, though.

1) Electronic marvels MAY let you down at any time, no matter how good they are, and when they do, you have no way out - none whatsoever.

2) This (nor any other electronic props) is not inexpensive.

If I were you, I would study Richard Osterlind and/or Larry Becker. Both of them have some huge mental stage effects with lots of audience involvements in them.

Just my two cents.

Hey Sven,

Thanks for the feedback. You make an excellent point. If the electronics fail, I'm totally hung out to dry. There's simply nothing left to do but admit you screwed up and move on with the show. Yikes!

However, because of the show I do (with smoke, lights, etc., etc.) a simple fuse could stop my show.

I do everything I can to keep it simple, but I depend on lots of electronics and everything has to work every time.

Your advice is solid, but I think I will go ahead with the routine since all I have heard are rave reviews about it. I also am not an experienced mentalist. I just want to throw in a routine to change the pace with my regular show. So something that is "electronic" is a welcomed sight.

I probably won't use it for too many years, however, because of the risk of electronics failure.

You seem to know the routine. Tell me, is it strong enough that it really blows the audience away? Or is one of those things where most of the audience thinks they know it's electronics but just aren't sure of the details. I call those "marginal" illusions. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jeff

There is a member in the Café called Pradip Rao. He is an excellent mentalist and does a show, which is awesome. He may be able to help you as he has an in depth insight in these things.

Cheers, mate.

I bought Clock of Life a year or two ago....it's been sitting in its original briefcase since I received it. Apparently, I took out the routine and instructions for the effect because now that I'm thinking of puting it into a show, I can't seem to find the little folder/booklet that came with it describing the basic routine. Can anyone help me with this effect??

Sven,

I agree...I call those sort of effects "prayer-tricks" because you press a button and pray it works.

Best,
Mick
