The Tarot del Toro is now available on Amazon for $27, and it is a thing of bizarre beauty. I thought this group would appreciate the style.
Guillermo Del Toro is not only brilliant, but has provided some of the best "bizarre/horror/fantasy" films of recent years and even written the book for this set. A perfect Halloween present for yourself! |

Thanks for the heads up. Worth looking into as Del Toro has an eye for the bizarre aesthetic.

I am a fan of del Toro the film maker; I am less sure about this collaboration with an art professor with a penchant for inserting too many forced references to the master's cinematic output.
There are often good reasons that a freshly released item has so many discounted used copies for sale below the list price. The less-than-five star reviews remark that the card stock is thin and only the majors have true illustrations more detailed than sticks or gears. In the twelve small photos of several of the cards I see non-traditional names for some majors and it appears Death is not labeled at all. Is an upside down foetus in a jar adequate for The Hanged (Man is omitted)? How many blanks will you have to fill in for someone expecting a more traditional reading? I also note some jarring imagery which I find hard to reconcile with a medieval woodcut style--the aerial bombs, demon monster with a single wheel for The Chariot, etc. If your clientele is ultra hip and del Toro devotees, they may appreciate this. I think the potentially receptive audience might be smaller than it might first appear.
Arthur C Clarke was mistaken--Magic has always been the most advanced form of technology.

I found it to be totally inadequate. Pass.

Gotta say I like it. Non traditional with all art inspired by Del Toro's films, and I am a big fan of his work.
Card stock is adequate and images are unique. Little on the minors except for Valet, Knight, Queen and King. But I admit they might not be to everyone's liking. |
