This is my gratuitous thread to vent my sadness at the passing of Ray Charles.

Magic and mentalism are fields of great interest to me, but my bread and butter come from playing the piano. And I would not be the pianist I am today if not for Ray Charles. Seeing him perform on TV when I was a teenager was literally a life-changing event for me; I had never heard music like that before, and I decided then and there that THAT was how I wanted to play. His influence is so deeply ingrained in my playing that I can honestly say he has crossed my mind and effected me at a conscious level, very probably every single day of my adult life. Although I never got to meet him, losing him feels like losing a dear friend or relative. He was scheduled to perform in my city a couple months ago (which would have been my 7th time seeing him live), and I was saddened when he cancelled due to illness -- but not nearly as saddened as I am now.

If I believed in an afterlife, I would wish him well in it. As it is, I believe he achieved the best afterlife any of us can hope for -- a widespread, lasting, positive influence on the world.

I will miss you, Brother Ray.

Quinn
Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.

Well said Quinn. The World was made a little bit better with the likes of Ray Charles. The truly great will not be forgotten for quite some time and the impact that they had on the lives of many will continue to have it's impact.
Fortunatly we have the technology to keep his music and his performances alive and with us for as long as we want.
As long as we remember Ray Charles and all of the other Greats of this world and our own Loved ones, they will not die but will continue to influence our own lives.

We are slowly losing our connection to the past and the true entertainers.

Didn't even know he was ill.

I will never forget his role in "The Blues Brothers."

May he rest in peace.

I am still here folks?
Ohh wait the other Ray? I was a true fan of his as well. The only thing I didn't like was when he criticized Elvis Presley as the "King of Rock-N-Roll"?

This was unbecoming of the genious that Ray was!

I would just like to express my sorrow toward the passing of Mr. Charles. Even though he was another man I did not know too well, he seems to have made the world a brighter place...he may not be here physically, but he will never be forgotten within our hearts, our minds, and our souls.
If it is to be, it is up to me.
