Hi Everyone,

I thought I’d ask a few of questions of which I’m very interested in your answers. These questions have been asked and answered here before in various threads, but I wanted to ask the people who are using this forum and the faro presently/now.

1. What are your favorite faro applications?
2. Where did you first learn the faro?
3. Do you use the faro regularly in performance situations?

Let’s hope there are some faro fans lurking in the shadows. And, feel free to contact me if you’re interested in the project mentioned above.

2. Expert Card Technique
3. All the time

I learned the Faro from Harry Lorayne.
My favourite applications are (Four)titude and Vernon's Aces.
For a Faro Slough-Off, my favourite application is Lorayne's Easy Prediction based on the Richard Vollmer original.

It's much older of course but I first saw and learned Estimation Aces around 20 years ago. It always fries people.

1. Favorite applications: unshuffling the deck, stacking poker hands
2. Learned: from the Marlo booklets
3. Do you use it often? Yes, but very quickly. So, I firmly believe that most "faro tricks" are bad because they're slow, unnatural and - in the worst cases - mathematical.

Also, there's a level with the faro, where you can do it and it seems like (real) magic, but actually what you're doing is a super-suspicious, unnatural looking shuffle, and often this is being done many times. It's an amazing tool, but, like neat whisky and honesty, a little goes a long way.

For me, this is - Mike Skinner's 5 faro stack, which I'd very rarely stack in front of people, then depending on what's going on, an extra ahead-of-time faro to get to "six", then - in performance, either no faros at all, or two to unshuffle the deck, and maybe one or two to stack two or four poker hands, if folks know poker.

I'm very jealous of folks who have ways to make a faro look like a normal riffle. I'm looking at you, Denis Behr. I've not quite got there yet, but I'm good enough that it works for laymen.

The number one tip for me was - learn to faro using 'Bee' cards. For some reason, Bees faro really, really easily.

Hello,

1 - Too many to list, but I like The Seekers by Paul Swinford, Elmsley's Colour Changing Faro Shuffle and Unshuffled.
2 - I learned it from reading Elmsley's Collected Works Vol 2, and self-teaching playing about with decks. I visited Tam Shepherds many years ago and Roy Walton gave me some pointers too, which really helped.
3 - I don't use it often, mainly for stacking a deck into Si Stebbins (Darwin Ortiz method).

I'm a huge fan of Unshuffled. Such great visual moments.

I don't use it now, I agree with Andy (Jerx) that NO ONE shuffles like that, so it just looks weird.

It was an interesting exchange. The viewpoints he presents for not liking or using the faro are pretty common. As are the standard responses and workarounds one can come up with in response. Good to see Unshuffled mentioned and an example of an exception, and there are plenty of other relevant examples and other points could be explored to support a different opinion. What doesn't work for one person might work just fine for another. Personally I'm happy for the difference in thinking, lest everyone could be doing the same stuff the same way. I love reading the jerx stuff. Whatever he writes about, Andy generally always has a good point to make or does a great job of explaining his own perspective, regardless of whether everyone agrees or not.

All I got when I tried that was a bad German accent and a rubber band that responds to the name "Herbert!" Smile
