I got distracted by the pretty videos and forgot to share my experiences/preferences with the Faro.
1.) Unshuffled, getting into stacks, some one-off tricks (Bannon, DMF, blanking on names now but for example), doing mirror stack work (based on some ideas from Asi Wind's Paperwork, if am remembering correctly) 2.) 90's, Gerry Griffin and then a lot of practice 3.) I do. It's always in the hands and rationalized (not always outloud, silent scripts are amazing) "because I'm rubbish as shuffling while standing up, I just sort of jam the cards together" |

Exactly! It's almost like you know a ton about this so things it took me years to figure out are things you just know.
You should write a book! BTW, and I'll say it again, I'm totally picking up your books as soon as my work bonus comes in, quite excited for them. |

MC Mirak, Thanks. Well, it's a pretty good time right now to read and practice. And perhaps master that tabled faro?

Mirror stack is great. And I think we could all do with a lot more tabled faro practice.

I enjoyed playing with the mirror stack ideas in Mnemonica but none of the mirror stack routines found their way into my working repertoire. As with everything Tamariz makes it a lot of fun and very entertaining though.
Unshuffled mentioned again above. Such a great routine. I always thought it would be good to do with images printed on the side, rather than words. Would open up some cool possibilities and visuals. Maybe it's been done and I missed it. For anyone interested, from yesterday Vanishing Inc. has the project mentioned in the first post, Faro Fundamentals, available on their site. https://www.vanishingincmagic.com/magic-......booklet/ "I honestly loved reading this, and wished I'd had it in my hot little hands twenty years ago. It would have saved me so much time and energy trying to figure out even a fraction of this on my own." - Jeremy Griffith

Congratulations, Greg!
Great book. If you know what the four letters f-a-r-o spell, then you should own this book. Don't miss it.

Good advice, Greg! As I think I've mentioned, I'm going to be picking up your books in a couple of weeks or so but I'll start practicing in the meantime.
There aren't a lot of mirror stack effects I like but Ben Blau (Sophisthree from Asymptotes for example) and Asi Wind (in his Paperwork release) have some that I really like. |

Get the Elmsley PDFs or the books if you can afford them. One of the best investments that I have ever made. Amazing work on the Faro shuffle from a mathematical master. Plus you can meet Penelope

I'm a fan of Elmsley's work. There are a bunch of great sources for information about the faro. One of the reasons I began this project was to demystify the move for anyone previously too daunted to learn it, by bringing much of the most helpful and interesting information together in one resource.

It’s for one person (although it could be adapted for more), and is totally impromptu. It’s a similar triple-coincidence type of routine. Happy new year! Ben

I'm 4 years late to this post but here:
1. I mostly use the faro to control/position cards where I want them to be. - Placing a key card/cards in preparation for effects (either shuffling it next to the selected card, placing it in a position for sunken key, and/or in combination with mathematical principles like Aronson's Undo Influence.) - A controlled shuffle (In combination with Forte's Timing Stack concept: Same principle with ECT's Double less One effect, but the first shuffle is an ITH riffle shuffle.) If used with the key card, you will know how far the card is from the key card, even with a riffle shuffle followed by a faro. - Direct card control: In a way, you can apply the Open Index concept in memdecks to fasdiu - just that you only know the position of that card(Using the rhythm count/3-2-2-3 count for the selection process or any other gambits where you can force/know the position of the selected card.) You can shuffle the cards honestly(with the faro) and then just jazz the production/reveal. *Favorite application I do is controlling the card to the 26th position(either with the faro or other placement methods). You have now 2 ways to peek that card: either during the faro (i usually use this if I use a different placement method) or during the perfect 26th cut (this I usually use after a faro shuffle placement) 2. Marlo's Faro Notes in RCT. 3. I use it all the time. Btw, I do the faro with similar mechanics to Redford's. I also switch up the way I finish the shuffle, depending on the way my spectators shuffle a deck of cards. Most of the time, I finish it with a bridge finish (similar to the ITH riffle shuffle bridge). I prefer this bec at the end when I reframe, I can just mime the bridge part of the shuffle to remind them that the cards were shuffled (they may associate it with the ITH riffle shuffle bec it shares the same finish.) I really dig the faro shuffle. I'm still in the rabbit hole, Greg. (I have performed some of your tricks in social media. I tagged you also in it, I hope I gave it justice with the way I performed them.) Looking forward to jam/talk with you regarding the faro in the near future. -orenjii.md |

Orenjii.md, better late than never! I haven't stopped in here for a while. Cool seeing this post resurrected, thanks for the surprise! Great to hear you're enjoying some of those ideas. Would love to see your take on any routines you're doing if you post links here. Best, Greg.

Learned it from CUCM, and favorite effect using the faro is Darwin Ortiz’s “Sweating Bullets.”
