$65.00 https://www.murphysmagic.com/product.aspx?id=68017 The Hype: With a flash of FIRE you reveal the spooky scorched image of a celebrity face that your audience is thinking of! It appears on the back of ANY blank, signed card! Even your own business card or other surfaces! Celebrity Scorch is a POWERFUL piece of visual magic that comes straight from the professional set of one of the UK's top magicians Mathew Knight. After 5 years of creating and refining this trick, and testing it on hundreds of audiences, Mathew is finally releasing it to the magic community in collaboration with the creator of 'The Mystery Blocks' Stephen Macrow. With NO complicated sleight of hand, it's easy to do, sets up quickly and reliably, takes up very little pocket space and can be reset in seconds. You can even repeat the trick with a different celebrity outcome! You receive a precision made tool that has only been made possible by modern manufacturing techniques, which will last a lifetime. No need to keep re buying the trick as it will never run out. As performed by social media superstar Luca Gallone! It's an eye catching trick that gives your deck of cards a break... AND can be used as a perfect way to hand out your business card, so when they're discussing the trick, they know who to call for their next event. Not only does it get incredible reactions but it leaves your spectator with a memory of an amazing moment and a one of kind souvenir that they often keep and cherish. The method is strong and very deceptive and can be performed from any angle. In the explanation Mathew discusses multiple methods and ideas and gives you all the pro tips to maximize the impact of this real 'worker'! It's filmed from multiple angles to give a great perspective and easy to follow instructions Points to remember: Visual, Deceptive, Easy to do, Great reactions, Professional worker, Creates a souvenir Hands out business card, Can be repeated, Angle proof, Comes with special tool Clear instructions, Never runs out My Take: This is something that should last you forever. The is made of metal and very well made It appears to be laser cut. Instruction is via a downloadable 41 minute vide, very nicely and clearly shot. This is a nice piece of work. You receive it in a little plastic carrying case that is small enough to fit most anywhere. That being said, there are two things with this product that concern me. First of all, you obviously have to force a celebrity name. However, you are not given a way to do the force. It is suggested that you buy an app by Nicholas Einhorn which will do the work for you. (The app will cost you an additional $39.95). He also shows you how he set his own up before getting the Einhorn app. Unfortunately, this takes an enormous amount of work plus the knowledge of how to do links in the document on your phone. However, a little thinking led me to the perfect answer to the problem. I set mine up using a Sven pad. To my way of thinking, this is even more deceptive as a method than using your phone. I have seen the Sven pad used numerous times by magicians on TV and it ever fails to kill. The other concern it have is that the business card he uses is a larger format than a standard American business card. While I suppose the American card would work, it just wouldn't look right. Again, there is a simple solution here. I ran down to my local Staples and bought some small double blank index cards. Your work fits very nicely onto this media. Also obvious is that the Out to Lunch principle figures in here. However, he has come up with a method that doesn't use rubber bands which I think is really clever. It will take an outside purchase and a little work making it worth your while. However, the standard Out to Lunch principle will work just fine. This is ideal for a street performer. If you do ash on palm, you know just how powerful this plot can be. With Scorch, you step it up quite a few levels. Your volunteer makes a selection of approximately 100 famous names and has seen the blank card. It is signed (and you can even have the celebrity's name written on it.) A lit lighter is passed under the card. When the card is turned over, the celebrity's face has been burned onto it. Then, even better, you give the card to your volunteer to take home. I am sure you could have your booking info printed on the card and get some advertising from it. I don't think your volunteer will ever throw this one away. Many years ago, I did Mike Power's Holy Terror for some people. This is a trick where holes are punched into a card after which the holes all move to one corner. I went back to visit them a year later and the card was still sitting on their mantel. Giving an impossible object like this to someone to take home can have many benefits. You can be sure it will be shown to friends along with the story. And you know volunteers always remember an event as more magical than it actually was. Your get two faces with your gimmick. Mine had Elvis Presley and Tom Cruise. There is another set available featuring Marilyn Monroe and Arnold Schwarzenegger so choose the one that is right for you when you make the purchase. With some practice you can make the burned face look pretty darned good. Another plus is that you are shown how to fix the lighter so instead of a small flame, you get a huge one. Very visual and much more impressive to your audience. Can this be repeated? Not easily. You would have to make up a card with the other celebrity, force their name and do what amounts to an easy deck switch. I am sticking to Elvis (not a Tom Cruise fan!) Conclusion: Despite the concerns mentioned previously, yes, I will be performing this. My suggestions will put it within the capabilities of everyone reading this. It is truly a strong effect and one that your audience is not likely to forget soon. The gimmick is well made and should last a lifetime. This would be deadly at a bar, party or small show. This is something you will be adding to your repertoire and making a strong reputation for yourself. Plus, it is just fun to do! Recommended with the limitations previously listed. |
