I gave my review, and I feel I was fair handed in what I stated. I believe just like every song has an audience, it just has to find it....and like wise, I believe every trick/method has magicians/mentalists who will love it. As we have seen already, there are people who are thrilled to death with this, and are very very happy. |

No, don't apologize. Everyone's opinion matters. But, some posts were a little personal and boarded bullying. All good!

Dave, John and Steven,
Thank you so much for your posts. You all make good points. Steven - you haven’t offended me AT ALL, nobody here has. I appreciate your kindness towards me and support of my work but most importantly I appreciate your approach to honesty. I’m sorry that CTRL-C wasn’t for you but I’ll reach out to you when some other projects of mine are nearer complete, they might be more for you. Not everything is for everybody and I think we should all keep that in mind. In the meantime, like John hinted towards - and as Nique said - it’s important to note that you are buying information here. Information that is endorsed by Marc Salem (who also wrote the foreword for CTRL-C) There is much more new here than just a sequence or choreography. I’m excited to know that so many of you are out there performing it and will be moving forward. Here to answer what I can, when I can. Chris

I’d like to address something here: those people that are saying there is nothing new - I’d encourage you to look at more than the sequence of events.
Never, ever before has anyone used this principle like this or through this, so to speak Never before have these conditions been possible. People that say ‘it’s just choreography’ are unable to see what this is, or the power it has. The reviews so far on Penguin are regarding the price (nobody forced anyone to buy anything) and / or it not being new, when it is. It is impossible to please everyone but some should understand that when the person that discovered a principle in the 90’s (Marc Salem) loves a new breakthrough of his concept so much that he writes the introduction for the instructions, there MUST be something new here. Besides some reviews on penguin there are MANY positive ones here and in my inbox. Many people (close followers of my work) have had this for nearly two years, used it, use it and enjoy it. That all being said, I hope those that have it, try it and I hope that those who write bad comments find what they are searching for. Best wishes everyone! Christopher

I have wasted way more money of things that will never be used. ( the M5 is a perfect example 🤦♂️ ) I respect the work that Chris has put into the magic community as a whole. As for price, I’ve never had an issue paying for a product that does it’s job. I’m sitting right in the middle of the fence on this. ( price has absolutely nothing to do with it ) I’m trying to make an educated decision on if this will fill a spot in my routines. I only pointed out the penguin reviews because I thought there would be a complete opposite effect from what’s on there now. As for the comment Chris made about the majority of them being about pricing. There were equally made comments about there being a bit of deception in the advert. ( which also has nothing to do with me being patient on my purchase ) I completely understand that there will be products that cannot give a full performance video based on the method. I agree 100% with why this doesn’t have one. Since I do not own this as of yet, I cannot say anything on the pricing. However, there have been many to compliment and justify the price.

While I mentioned price in my review, honestly, price was the least of my concern. I buy a ton of stuff that I feel is overpriced, but I chose to buy it because I wanted it.
Price was the very least of my issue. That being said....set aside price. I believe from a spectators perspective, I do believe Ctrl C WILL fool them, and I think it WILL impress them. It is certainly serviceable if you like the method. and if you are going to use this, then it probably is well worth the $200.00 But those are some big if's to think about. at the end of the day, I think Chris is a man of integrity who would never set out with an intent to offer a product at a price point that he did not whole heartedly believe in. In spite of what myself, or anyone else may feel about the method. I also understand this pricing structure (regardless of my feelings on the matter). I do not believe this was meant to be a cash grab by any measure. I believe Chris has a reputation that speaks for itself. This price is designed to protect the method from the kid that has no real interest in the art, the preserving, or advancing of the methods. This price is to ensure that the person gaining the knowledge is doing so out of a true investment in the art. I understand that, and I support that. To be honest, this effect, using this method (or not) absolutely CAN be a reputation maker. So while it wasn't exactly for me, that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be for you. It just means you need to be very considerate in making the choice. |

There's 10 reviews up on Penguin, as of now, from purchasers. Between the Café, Penguin, and other review sites, anyone considering this should be able to make an informed decision at this point.

I've followed this thread with interest as Chris is a friend and I've see the time, effort and thought that he has put into CTRL-C (and all the effects he releases). I just wanted to let people know that Chris is a perfectionist and will spend days or even weeks looking for just the right envelope or just the right type of paper to achieve an effect that he's working on. For example, he spent a lot of time finding a paper to print 'Definitive' on that has minimal grain just so that the tearing process is easier and cleaner. In other words, he cares about his mentalism. I know that he believes in CTRL-C otherwise he would never have put it out there. But I also understand it may not be for everyone. I certainly agree with the last few posts that there is now tonnes of opinion here, both pro and con that will allow you to make an informed choice. Also both Luca Volpe and Nique Tan have provided very thorough video reviews so if you haven't seen them make sure you check out their channels.

The thing is, we all know that this is not real mindreading. We all know that there must be a method involved that’s used to obtain the information. If you eliminate all of the ‘nots’ from the description Chris gives in the advert, you should be able to make a fairly accurate assumption as to what method(s) might be at work. That being said, there is more to any mentalism effect than how the method is layered and disguised into producing a deceptive effect. That’s what you’re paying for here. Chris is giving you a practical, well thought out, professional solution that tics all the boxes. He is giving you the tool. It’s up to you to develop and deliver a presentation that will take this to ‘miracle’ status.

Corpmagi I agree with your comment however I don't think that's the issue here, its about misleading trailers. Here's an example scenario...
A trailer shows magician having spectator shuffle a deck of cards and placing upon the table, the performer stands away from the deck and asks for a number between 1 and 52, spectator calls 23, performer places prediction card face down on table and asks the spectator to deal to the 23rd card, BOOM! the card at 23 matches prediction!! Now I'm sure as magicians we all own the typical Caan/acaan trick, but after watching a trailer as I've described you'd be tempted to buy whatever the price because it showed the spectator shuffled the deck. However, when you recieve your purchase, it turns out there is a deck switch involved. The part not shown on the trailer was where the performer picks up the deck and gestures with it during some patter and showmanship but in the course of handling the deck, it gets switched. I think this is crucial for magicians to see NOT THE SWITCH but the fact that the deck is handled between the point of cards shuffled and when the spectator picks them up and deals. I expect this type of thing happening during the editing of Penn & Teller Fool Us but not when I am being sold something. As I mentioned before, if CTRL-C is REALLY performed as shown, that the performer NEVER touches or goes near the envelope (as show in trailer) then I'm gonna buy this, if not, then it's like other variations I own. |

I completely agree with you Mark.
That’s why in the trailer for CTRL-C you can see Nick handle the outer envelope to place the smaller one inside. So to be clear, although this part is optional (a you can let the spectator place everything together themselves) you do at some point do something. Though you never, ever touch their card and if you do it how I do, you never even touch the smaller envelope. What you are buying here is not just a handling, it is a method that is part handling, part script and timing but also a new discovery with something that was discovered decades ago. Which means you do not need any stacks of envelopes or cards. This is 2 envelopes, one card, fully self contained. The spectator really does draw out the room and then immediately place their drawing inside the smaller envelope whilst they are still out of the room. The image they draw never comes out the smaller envelope when you are near them till after you have read their mind. So if you help them nest the envelopes you do not need to look in the direction of the envelope, you do not peek it at that point and they drawing is never near you out of the ordinary envelope they have placed it in. That’s why this is so impossible. It allows for things that have not been possible before. Most importantly, this is remembered and re told ( I know from years of doing this) as they draw, seal up and put in their pocket. that's what matters. So can I tell you what the something that happens is, no - sorry. But I can explain this - when you receive your ‘vision’ of what they have drawn they are holding their image, are out the room or turned away and the image really is inside the envelope and in their pocket… I truly hope that helps. Chris

Much appreciate your reply Chris. I fully understand that you can't tell me or show on the trailer the "something". I do respect you replying and standing up for the effect here on the forum and answering questions (just as Craig Petty does too). I'll think about this a little more.

In a world of deceptive trailers and misleading ad copy, it seems the only way to making decent purchases is by sticking to products where creators openly share what you're getting before you buy. The reviews suggest there's a discrepancy here between the description and actual product. Even though it looks like a great fit for me on the surface, I just refuse to drop that much money on a something where I don't know exactly what I'm getting. Hopefully Brent or someone will do an unboxing and we'll get some more clarity.
