Please! HELP SAVE MAGIC INC. One of our nation’s oldest continuously family-run Magic Shops! Please SPREAD the word.
Without this shop, and the support from all who’ve walked through the doors, I would not have had the life or career I’ve had. Magic, Inc. is an enduring and crucial part of Magic’s history and legacy. Please read Sandy’s letter bellow. In these hard times do whatever you are able to help. Thanks! Walt ___________________________________ From Sandy Marshall: For almost 100 years Magic Inc. has been about community. From its start as the Ireland Magic Co. to its re-branding as Magic Inc. in the 1960s our family owned & operated shop has always been a gathering place for magicians from around the world. The next few months will determine the future of Magic Inc’s brick & mortar presence. Please help us keep Jay Marshall’s legacy alive. We need your help! We don’t want to lose our magic shop without a fight and want to try every last option before we give up our corner lot. As a last resort, we have been forced to set up a GoFundMe Page in hopes that our friends and loyal customer base will help keep our brick & mortar magic shop in business. Magic Inc. is a Chicago institution. It has been frequented by some of the most renowned magicians in the business: David Copperfield, Penn & Teller, Lance Burton, Billy McComb, Johnny Thompson, Bill Malone, Marshall Brodien, Ed Marlo, Dai Vernon, Eugene Burger, Don Alan, Max Maven, Rafael Benatar, Dan Harlan, Al James, Marcus Eddie, Peter Samelson, David Kovac, Nick Lewin and Dave Cox, among many others. When my dad Jay Marshall died in 2005, everyone thought that was the end of Magic Inc., but my wife, Susan and I stepped in, and somehow we survived for the next fifteen years. In all that time Susan and I have never taken a penny out of the shop. We ran Magic Inc. to honor my dad’s memory. We made our part-time demonstrator, Pedro Nieves our manager (perhaps our best move) and hired a talented team of professional magicians who are also excellent craftsmen and demonstrators. Once again we were creating and manufacturing tricks and publishing new books. We established “The Jay Marshall Lecture Series” and we thrived even with a change in location five years ago. It was real magic. Covid-19 arrived in 2020 and even with the forced shutdown we managed to hold on, but as we enter Phase Two, it has knocked the wind out of our sails. Because of its impact we cannot survive the huge decline in foot traffic, a near complete loss of tourism for our city, and zero in-store events – a loss of numerous lectures, summer camp, and private and group classes. With thanks and appreciation, Sandy For almost 100 years Magic Inc. has been about community.
