Isn't it strange how you always mean to get round to some things, yet never manage to do them - like changing the batteries in the TV remote (when you think that just pushing the buttons harder will actually make it work!)
Well, joining the magic Café is like that for me. All my magical colleagues have been talking about it for ages, but what with everything else going on, I just never seemed to get round to joining until now! Anyway, at last I can say that its nice to belong! As far as the magic goes, I love it all, but particularly close-up. I do a lot of table hopping and parlour style performances - and, yes, I also still do kids shows, although if I'm honest I am trying to do less of them these days. Not that I don't enjoy them, just that the kids are getting more rude and obnoxious, and parents often seem to view the party entertainer as a good excuse to ditch the kids for a while - and I hate being viewed as a baby sitter! I'm currently president of my local magic club - Southend Sorcerers Society. Its a very active club with about 40 members, ranging from complete beginners through to full time pros, and although its hard work to run, I get a trememdous amount of pleasure out of seeing new performers make real progress. In fact we put on a show just last night where one of our juniors made his stage debut. He did brilliantly - it made me feel really proud to see him do so well. Well enough of my jabberings. I look forward to getting involved in some of the threads on the Café and to getting to know some of you a little better, sharing ideas and thoughts maybe - so thanks for having me, and here's to an interesting time ahead. |
