If this happens often I would try and take into account that it probably will happen and plan to have an out. Always force / glimpse the card so you can go in a different direction even if the trick doesn't need you to do that (always fun to practice the classic force).
Maybe after forcing you ask some questions and determine if your spectator is telling the truth or not to determine their card (while doing this you can glance at the faces of the cards openly rearranging the deck / ect as you try to determine if what they are saying is truthful or not). Have another deck prepared and take out the force card in that deck and put it in a sealed envelope. After the spectator shuffles try and cut to their card (hey 1 in 52/54% chance you can do it). If you fail show them the backup envelope and get them to open it. While that distracts them do a deck switch so you can show their card is no longer in the deck. Similar to the first one but instead of getting their card read their palm to narrow it down from the deck to X card packet and then do a packet trick. While you're picking out the cards for the packet you can easily arrange them in some order under the guise of figuring out the spectators card. worst case scenario there is always the invisible deck to give you an out. After they shuffle pretend you get a phone call. While talking to yourself act confused and ask the spectator to find their card in the shuffled deck and flip it. Now say your going to predict the spectators card by flipping over a card in another deck that will match theirs (pretend to do this). Hang up and ask the spectator to reveal their card then use the invisible deck to show that was the card you just flipped. If / When they ask how you did this (or if they don't pretend you just remembered you got to do something) take out your phone and pretend to call. Tell your past self this is your future self and how to save themselves from the spectator trying to mess up your trick (this invisible deck idea I got from one of Craig's magic youtube videos). Hopefully after a few of these and giving them the chance to shuffle in tricks where it doesn't matter you can train your spectators it doesn't matter if they shuffle or not. |

If you don't want to (or cannot) palm the card, then Invisible Deck is a great out. If you don't want to carry one, it is available as an APP. If you like apps, you could also use one like Predictagram.
If they want to shuffle, let them shuffle, then cut the deck and reveal a card. The 1 in 52 times you get it right you will blow their minds. The other 51 times, shrug and say "Wouldn't it be awesome if it was though?" and then suggest you couldn't find it because it was mixed up in the other deck (ID) or show that you predicted the card weeks ago on your Intstagram feed (with Predictagram). |

It takes up very little space AND you can use the comedy intro, "Would you like to see a LITTLE card trick" (or "another little card trick"). This makes it appear the whole going to another deck thing is part of the act. Julie |

Let them shuffle / examine the deck as much as they want in the previous tricks. Throw in a fair amount of false shuffle. Properly done, it should satisfy their curiosity and prevent any further request. If this is your very first trick, a good pace / story should be enough to avoid such questions anyway.
In many case, it may be easier to learn how to avoid getting in such situations than to learn how to deal with them. |
