Frost - Mikey V and Abstract Effects
$40.00 https://www.murphysmagic.com/product.aspx?id=65779 The Hype: From one of our favorite new artists, Mikey V, comes the absolute last word on the blank deck: Frost! Frost is a completely gaffed deck that does all the work for you making it one of the easiest and most fooling, self-working card effects you will do! Printed with high quality stock at the United States Playing Card Company, Frost comes ready to go right out of the box! Start by showing a full deck of 52 cards front and back, and with the snap of a finger reveal that every single card has become blank on the front and back except for the spectator's chosen card. You not only get the visual of showing all of the faces blank, but also get an extra kicker when you reveal that all of the backs have also turned blank except for their signed card! Your spectators can see the deck visually change around their card! The Other Brothers and Mikey V teach their favorite routine using Frost along with some bonus visuals that are perfect for social media! And for those of you in a hurry, here's the TL; DR version: Visual Easy to do Self working Ready to go out of the box Printed by USPCC Instant reset No rough & smooth No flaps Full routine taught plus bonus visuals that are perfect for social media! My Take: Very visual magic. Deck is heavily gaffed and can't be examined or used for any other routine. I have seen similar gaffing on some other effects such as a gaffed Triumph but it works extremely well with this routine. As they said, it is very easy. To have the signed card being the only one visible after the change is very strong. It will require a card from another deck. The simplest version is my favorite and you can pretty much do it right out of the box. You show a complete deck both back and front. You then show a couple of double blank cards explaining that they have power. After adding one of the blanks to each end of the deck, the entire deck is shown instantly to be blank on both sides. You then remove the blanks for each end and show the deck restored to its original condition. My wife and I volunteer at a thrift shop to benefit the local hospice. My job recently has been to scan customers' temperatures and make sure they are wearing a mask. Being right by the front door and seeing all traffic in and out gives me a good audience to try my new stuff on. Recently a young man came in with three girls to do some shopping. While the girls were looking at the store, I did Frost for the young man and it totally fried him. When the girls returned he insisted I show them. Now, here is where it gets good. I inadvertently flashed a back when I shouldn't have and one of the girls caught it. I immediately closed the deck up and spread it again now showing all backs. Her gasp was audible. What could have been a disaster instead became even more mystifying. I wouldn't suggest trying this but occasionally you are given a gift so run with it. The deck is the usual Bicycle quality and the special printing is very well done. Another plus is that the cards are Rider backs so either Bicycle has loosened up on protecting their brand or the decks were printed a while ago. This is a very visual effect and you can do the basic routine (and, in my opinion, the best) pretty much right out of the box. The Other Brothers have put out another winner from their company, Abstract Effects. I like this very much the only downside for me was the price. It is a one trick deck that cannot be used for anything else. I would have been more comfortable at a price range from somewhere from $25.00- $35.00. Except for that I can wholeheartedly recommend this. Fun and powerfully visual. |
