A virtual, socially-distanced wave from gloomy Guildford in the UK!
Hello. I'm a longtime lurker so thought it was about time I did the decent thing and introduced myself. Lockdown really inspired me to devote more time to my magic. I was massively into it as a kid, then as a young adult, now as an increasingly balding, curmudegeonly middle-aged man. I'm mainly into card magic and mentalism. Fav magicians: Eugene Burger (RIP), Jerry Sadowitz, David Regal, Derren Brown. Look forward to meeting new folk, exchanging ideas and CLASSIC BANTZ/bizarre and unnecessary passive aggressive critiques. Lolz. Chat soon M |

Great! I think you're in the right place for all of that

Greetings from the other end of the A281... Horsham.
Always nice to meet (virtually) a fellow Sadowitz fan! |

There's not many of us in Horsham! I've been trying to organise some sort of regular meet up for card fans for a while, then lockdown happened... maybe once we're on the other side and you're in town we can have a beer and card chat.
I've seen Jerry a few times in London, I hope he gets back to performing as soon as he can. He said in the latest Dodo that the magazine is his only income at the moment, so if you want to help him out, email him and buy a copy. Looking forward to seeing more comedy too, you've had some decent acts on at the G Live over the years. |

I've emailed Jerry in the past but never had a reply. Don't you have to be on his list of family / friend / pet at this stage? You should feel very honoured! Probably not a great business model though... G-Live is ok, it's just not designed for comedy. Feels more like an aircraft hanger and hard to create a comedy club atmosphere. I did see Jerry in Woking a few years back. Lots of confused Surrey types who'd clearly just decided to "see some comedy" without doing the research. One woman stood up and just ranted at him about being immoral and how he was going to hell. I won't print his response but needless to say half the audience had walked out by the end. |

Nobody can clear an audience like Jerry!
He has some Dodo mags for sale, and I think he has some of the Roy Walton specials available too. He only prints 100 of each, and once they're gone, that's it. If you don't mind his particular brand of comedy, there's some cracking card magic in each issue. By the way, I first heard curmudgeonly in the classic Fist of Fun back in the 90's. You've got a good memory, saying it was Richard Herring took me right back to my youth! |

I've been a big fan of Stewart Lee and Rich Herring since listening to Fist of Fun on Radio 1 as a spotty teenager! Not many people remember it now. I think Sadowitz actually popped up very briefly in Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle. Strange to think he was the face of Channel 5 back in the 90s. Those were the days... |
