Hey guys I'm excited to release my second rubber band project to the magic community.
It's my method to do the G.W. Hunter puzzle knot style routine, with a rubber band. Because it's done with a rubber band, once the knot is tied it can never be untied. In my opinion, it's perhaps the strongest thing I do with rubber bands. On the download you get an in-depth tutorial that explains the essentials in gaffing rubber bands. YOu get a bunch of miscelaneous ideas involving this knotted rubber band gimmick and a fully fleshed out professional routine. To quell some of the common concerns with rubber bands, no you don't have to do any secret preparations on the spot under fire and no, you do not need to carry rubber bands on your wrist. You can carry the gimmicks in a pocket on a card box or in a wallet without a problem. The Gordian Knot by Josh Burch https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/14875 Full disclosure, this isn't a great trick for video. It plays much better live. Ideally, I'd be able to do the routine for you live and allow you to handle the knotted rubber band but alas that's outside the relm of practicality. If you have any questions please let me know. |

Oof, that first review. Good luck with this download. I liked the other one.

Here's my brother-in-law, one of my harshest critics and one of the most skeptical spectators I know reacting to the trick for the first time:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeG3Yg3l64c&feature=youtu.be The reaction is different. At first, it just looks like a flourishy way to tie a knot in a rubber band but as they inspect the gimmick they come to realize that what they just witnessed was impossible. I've had people take these home with them and come back days later talking about the trick. It's very different from most of the magic I do. At the very least, for $5 you get an in-depth tutorial on gaffing rubber bands using Hondo's method. He has created the standard for this type of gaff and I'm happy he allowed me to teach his process as part of this download. |

Hi Josh I enjoy your ideas very much in the Penguin Magazine. You should release more I believe 😀
Wasn’t this released some years ago?

I don't know if Penguin did something or if the reviewer took their own review down. We'll see if it pops up again or not. I don't have any control over any of the reviews on Penguin and I'm not sure who moderates them. Just so nobody's in the dark the reviewer said something about how they didn't believe that the gimmick would stand up to any scrutiny. I responded by saying that if you build it right, it does. If you have any concerns about the secret being discovered I cover several ways to clean it up. He seemed to take my outs for this as a negative. Really, you don't need the outs or clean up I just included them on there for the sake of completeness. If this is a concern for anyone I'd love to talk. As you can see in the video of my brother in law, they can really scrutinize the band. I wish it wasn't so difficult to perform live in a pandemic or I could film other examples. Here are some anecdotes from over the years. I used to teach high school and a few of the rougher kids had heard that I was a magician. I did the trick for their group and handed them the band. The student messed with the rubber band for over an hour until it broke. The rest of the year he said that this trick was the best magic trick he'd ever seen. At a magic convention a few years ago I fooled a whole group of magicians. They kept taking the band and taking turns trying to reverse engineer it. It was a hit. At a hotel last year one of the clerks at the front desk heard I was a magician and asked to see something. I performed the trick and gave her the rubber band. When I came back later her coworker asked if I could do it again. I abliged and they each kept their knotted rubber bands. I've had gigs where every kid wants a knotted rubber band so I do the trick over and over again. It's strong enough that it can stand up to that kind of scrutiny. It's an odd enough impossible object that it really keeps people talking. Maybe once the pandemic is over I can get some more live footage. |

I have the Hondo DVD. I have found the bands are quite tedious to make well. Maybe I'm just not good at it. Only one out of several would look really good to me. Of course I'm looking as a magician. I though the gimmick was visible in the demo (maybe intentional).

Don't get me wrong. I wasn't commenting on the trick itself. I actually kinda like it since it seems more like a quick little oddity instead of a traditional magic trick. I could see people talking about it and remembering it. I might even grab it because the price is right.
I just thought it was weird that penguin took down the review so fast. |

Complaint that the rubberband is not at all examinable, to which josh put up a video of someone examining (above), but the person in that video looks up, as to comment, and the video cut off. I'm going to pass on this one. His other stuff release last month (I believe), was great. Looks like a price drop too after review was removed, but I cannot recall. |

The camera cuts off because I turned it off. My kids were screaming in the back ground. He had been messing with it before for a few minutes and he looked like he was about ready to move on so I turned it off. Again, if we hadn't filmed this during a pandemic it would probably play better live. |

It looks like they put that review back up. Not sure what that was all about.
I went ahead and added a PDF to the download as well, so it's clearer to see the materials you need. Also, Erik Casey just posted a review of the effect on Sleighted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzeFSOiBl10 |
