...that's S.M.U.P.T.B. (for short) and this is available complete with video demo at Ben 721's website. Check it out:
http://www.outofthehat.cjb.net/ Yup...Now you can perform the pencil (or pen) thru bill at a moments notice all with completely ungimmicked and borrowed items. For a measly two american dollars (that's right!) Ben will email you the thorough how-to manuscript complete with some key photo illustrations. The bold and simple method immediately made me smile. I immediately took it in front of my trusty mirror and all I can say is... it looks great. With a minimal amount of practice you'll have a "perform anywhere, anytime" effect ....with borrowed items no less. This is something that I will use and use. Great magical thinking.Take advantrage. Ben's giving away some gold here. |

Oombob,
I believe "Just Passin Thru" includes, as an extra, a FREE no gimmick pencil thru bill! I wonder if it uses the same handling? Gerard |
Ben721 Veteran user 314 Posts |
Nah, just passin thru includes the finger though bill....
Check out my new effect "As Good As It Gets" a gimmickles pencil or pen through bill effect. It closely mimmicks the slow motion phase of "Misled." About "As Good AS It Gets" for no gimmicks and everything being borrowed.

Magic,
Actually that's a free no gimmick FINGER thru bill. Different handling. :) |

....yes obviously the finger thru bill is something different. I personally haven't come across Ben's method elsewhere
...what I do know is that it plays powerfully ....has a smooth handling....uses no gimmicks or difficult sleights and to top it off... is fully examinable! I am using this one all of the time. |

Why the "slow motion" part of the title? It looks more like "fast motion" on the video.
That doesn't mean it looked bad - it was a nice effect. |

I like this one. It is very visual, and the method is VERY slick. I recommend this one.
Keep it real, James Watkins |

Its up for free, so it doesn't matter, just download it. And, you could do it at whatever speed you want. Its just a video....

Hi Guys,
This effect looks very similar to Peter Eggink's "Artificial Experience", A.E. I don't own either so cannot comment for sure as to the method of both, but from watching both videos the method looks similar. Can someone let us know if indeed it is the same method and what the advantages of each effect may be. I see in Peter's version that the pen melts through the bill by itself (slowly). To see a video of A.E. go to http://www.murphysmagicsupplies.com and type A.E. into the search box. Cheers Matt J. |

A long time ago, when AE first came out, I contacted him, and told him about my version with the same plot. He told me his does indeed use a gimmick. It is not gimmick free. So there is a douple choices. If you want to use a gimmick, and let the bill melt through it slowly, without you touching it, then go for AE. If you just want something you could do at the drop of the hat, you can go with mine..
But besdies, matt, right now its free on my site.. just check it out for yourself.

For another great ungimmicked visual bill penetration, I would try out Andrew Mayne's Ghost Bills......Either of these versions will kill....

I get no money from any of this. Its just a freewebs website. I have made no money by any of you downloading it. I don't suggest you downloading anything from my site, except for the .pdf file. don't click on anything, don't download anything if you don't want to. Downloading the .pdf file it self will not put any software on your computer.

Hi Ben,
Checked it out....thank you That's what I got from watching the video, I also presumed A.E. was the same thing although I must admit I could not figure out the slow melt for sure. It looks as though he may be using the same initial set up though....am I wrong and way off base? Looks like a great impromptu version of pen through bill Ben....congrats! Matt J. |
Ben721 Veteran user 314 Posts |
Hmm, I don't actually own A.E., But I am pretty sure you are off base. When I watch the video, I am pretty sure that it is a different method..

I do own AE and can say that it IS gimmicked; for the record, just passing thru has a PERFORMANCE only version of finger through bill (Lonnie Chevrie's). Anyway, I went through the whole pencil through bill phase and can honestly say that I've still settled on Misled.

Alym,
Thanks for clearing that up. I agree that misled is a great effect although for a completely impromptu no gimmicks version Ben's does look pretty good. I know that it is a very different concept from misled but my favourite pen through bill has to be the Cornelius examinable pen through bill. As I say I know it is a different concept but to the lay audience it is a pen through bill none the less and a very powerfull one at that + they get to handle the pen as they sign the bill & for the kicker they get to see the torn parts of the bill where the pen is passing through. Great topic guys.....keep it going! Cheers Matt J |

I will say that AE is quite visual but not angle-proof. It also uses a method that I'd have to say is very original to ALL pen thru effects I've ever seen though I'm still undecided whether I like it or not - I haven't had time to perfect it yet so I haven't crowd tested it yet...when I learn it better I'll keep you all posted.
