I have recently picked up a very nice ring box and would like to incorporate it into my wedding shows. Perhaps borrow the groom's ring (I would never use the bride's) offering to clean it, destroy it in grinder or something and produce from ring box. Anyone know of any routines out there like that? Or where to purchase a small grinder?

Roy Roth (I think he has a site) sells the "Ring Grinder" which I have used for years and years.
I have a telescoping pen with a hook on the end. I lecture on this. Grind ring, pour glitter dust into piece of flashpaper. Hook it to end of extened pen (about 15-inc.) Light flash paper and ring appears hanging on hook. For one more bit of info, pm me.

I don't think I would destroy either of the wedding couple's rings on their special day. The only amusement/entertainment that comes from that trick is that of relief that "THANK GOD I got it back unharmed". The emotion of fear or discomfort is something you should really ask yourself if you want in your wedding show.

I have burned people's money and watched them laugh with everyone else. They know it's not real and in the end everything will be back to normal. The same goes for the ring.If I take the groom's ring and "grind" it into a fine dust, he knows that is not really his ring. Maybe it's a matter of presentation. My shows are light-hearted and comical. I don't think anyone will experience fear or discomfort from this routine, BUT I would NEVER use the bride's ring. With delicate bands and mountings with diamonds the odds of real damage are way to high and doing damage to the bride's ring on her wedding day at her own reception is not somewhere I want to be. That ring holds more power than Sauron's One Ring to Rule Them All. Mmyyy Preeecioouuus |

If he knows it's not really his ring then isn't magic lost somewhere there? It's just the way I see the effect.

If you see your favorite actor die in a movie, you know he's not really dead. Does this cause you to not enjoy the movie? Again, I think its a matter of presentation. If everyone is laughing and having a good time the fact that its make-believe doesn't matter. The situation you created is causing the comedy that is entertaining your audience, and that after all is our primary goal...entertainment. Of course they know the ring will come back but how did it end up in that sealed box that has been sitting on the table the whole time?? |

I agree with twistedace on this one. There are several things to consider:
1. If they really believe that you destroyed the ring, they're gonna be ****ed. 2. If they don't believe that you destroyed the ring, what's the point? There's no emotional connection. Just vanish it instead -- you'll get more magic that way. 3. It's their wedding day, they likely won't even want to take the ring off. I know that's how I'm going to feel when I get married later this year...no one's gonna be able to get that ring off my hand. 4. What message does it send to them? "Hi, you just got married, can I borrow your ring? Oops! I destroyed it." "With delicate bands and mountings with diamonds the odds of real damage are way to high and doing damage to the bride's ring on her wedding day at her own reception is not somewhere I want to be." But it's ok to destroy the groom's ring, even if it's just pretend? Call me crazy, but the groom's ring is just as important as the bride's. It's their day, not the bride's day. -Jim

A better way would be the ring box, the one were it rattles then stops and you say it fell out the box while everbodies looking for the ring you can produce it from a sealed box.
