I used to have a deck which was essentially a one way deck but each card had a different index.
This could be fanned to show all different and then any card chosen could be revealed as the 'force' card by just covering the other index.
Any one know the name of this deck or the name of the effect / dealer please?

Sounds like a Monte Cristo deck (currently being marketed as a trick known as "Mastermind").
For a supernatural chiller mixing magic (prestidigitation, legerdemain) with Magic (occultism, mysticism), check out my novel MAGIC: AN OCCULT THRILLER at http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Occult-Thriller-Reed-Hall/dp/1453874836
