I am having a hard time finding Umbrellas for a dollar. I have checked many dollar stores in the area and they are selling them for 5.00 Does anyone have a specific store that would sell them for 1.00?

My twin brother and I use the Voodoo Box in our show. We have two ways of doing it.
As for the umbrellas I think we got our at Big Lot for $2.50 each. |

Check some of the bigger chain 99¢ stores and Dollar stores, like Dollar Tree and so forth. Sometimes you can find some really great deals on stuff.

Andrew Mayne also came up with a similiar illusion as the voodoo box...the exception is he used a variety of objects....ski poles, tennis racquets, rakes, etc. Personally, I think the alternate version would create a better comedy moment and materials easier to find. You might consider this approach instead of the umbrella props.

Wal-Mart...$3 each, there were about 30 umbrellas. You should have seen the look on the clerks face when I purchased them all at once.
She asked if I was expecting a rainy day...I looked at her seriously and said, "40 of them...God spoke to me and said build an ark..." She didn't say a word after that. Voodoo Box is cool, my son and I perform it together. We added the sack-x trick which makes it all seem that much more impossible. Johnny

Would the Voodoo Box make a good surroundable appearance? Roll it out and pull out all the umbrellas and out pops a person?

I have to agree. The illusion "Anything Goes" would be great. Great for a comedy routine. The magician going thru a bunch of junk to stick thru the box.

While we're in the subject....can you use objects other than umbrellas? I was just curious....I love the idea of the umbrellas going with the voodoo theme, just another question about it. Thanks!

Maybe you are talking about Hans Morretti who performed the most incredible 'sword' box with a box that was cardboard and at the end he came out dressed as a clown. I only saw it once but will never forget it! He is a German magician.

Yeah!!!!!! that's it...thank you, it was killing me, I thought about calling it "The babysitter trap." I'd tell the story of when I was a kid & none of the girls would want to baby sit me cause I would trick them into getting inside this box, so on & so on

I found a load of umbrella's here in the ukj for £1.50 - Don't know how Andrew managed to get em for $1.00 - which is around £0.60p here in the UK. Probably down to our rip off government who will charge tax on anything they possibly can!!!

Does the voodoo box have to be replaced after several shows? It's just made of carton so I guess the holes in it get bigger all the time.

Anything goes in Andrew's Illusionbook. I love the idea of pushing an inflateable aligator thru! I came up with an idea of using a cardboard box, going in, and set it on fire, and let it burn down, showing that I'm gone. It is always fun to pull off your robe, showing that you are the one who set yourself on fire.

We put tape around the holes. We get about 5 or 6 shows out of one box. |
