I received my signed copy today. It is indeed a beautiful book and if your copy has the history of magic sticker that is signed then you can best believe it is David Copperfield signature. This was well worth the wait for all of us who received any copy of this fantastic book.

I received my copy today too. Looks great, but I’ll admit I was surprised to see the sticker inside with the autograph since I recall the advertisement saying it was an “autographed copy.” I’ve recently looked into the differences, and learned collectors call this a “bookplate” as previously discussed on this forum. Seems like something that should have been mentioned in the advertisement (and I am now seeing resellers making this distinction). Still a fan though, saw his show a few years ago and enjoyed it very much. For my 30 bucks, I’m happy.

Wow this is really fascinating reading! I'm having fun also Googling some of the people that are represented in this wonderful book. Most of these background stories are very very intriguing and interesting. Very happy I purchased this!

I just saw a wonderful routine by Cardini. It's really great reading about these wonderful magicians and then watching them perform on the internet.

I'm still waiting for my copy from talkshoplive. It appears they have created a shipping label but there has been no movement on it for days!

Just to let everyone know the tracking number is basically useless if you're trying to track the movement of it. They simply do not update it for some reason then all of a sudden the book shows up. But let me tell you for sure it's well worth the wait. And as I've already mentioned it is a lot of fun to do your own Google search on the people David Copperfield speaks about in this book. Last night I saw a wonderful performance by the very entertaining mr. Cardini! And it makes it that much more special when you know a little history about the person performing it brings it more to life. Anyway I hope everyone is enjoying their book I know I sure am.

I just picked this up at my local Barnes and Noble so I could get the bonus chapter on Orson Wells. I think the bonus chapter is only a couple pages. I haven't read the book yet, but I have looked through it, and it seems really similar to The Art of Magic book that PBS put out in the late 90s. That book, like Copperfield's, gives a brief history of many name magicians throughout history. The PBS book is also a larger coffee table type books with nice pictures. The only area where David's book does seem to differ is, of course, the photos of his museum collection. And that is what I'm most interested in. I hope, though I don't think it will be the case, that there are decent write-ups of the museum items in the pictures. I don't necessarily need another brief history/historical who's who of magic book.

Does it have photos from Copperfield's current live show at the MGM Grand in Las vegas? Wonder when he will write a biography or ever return to television? Probably going to pick this up from Barnes and Noble too...

Unfortunately, the quality of the paper and printing can in no way compete with the quality of the content.

I found the book to be very enjoyable. Each chapter seemed to be just the right size. You were giving an over view of the subject with some great pictures.
Still lurking after all these years.

If you buy one in person at Barnes & Noble, they may try and charge you the list price of $35. Show them the B&N web page where it is 29.99, and they might reduce the price (they did for me).

You would think they would since the company is saving on shipping costs. But there is probably some corporate calculation somewhere that takes overhead into account and has deduced that it costs more to sell a book at a store location versus online, even with shipping.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

I received yesterday the book. Ok it is a good book for lay audience. What bothers me a little is the fact that David Coperfield always adress his products (dvds books) to a wide audience. I would not expect him to reveal his secrets of course, but I would rather write something else, a theory book or some of his thoughts on magic. He loves wide audience but like this he will not leave anything distinct in the literature of conjuring. And this is pity because he is one of a kind.

Perhaps Mr. Copperfield's ability to appeal to a WIDE audience might explain why he has a net worth of more than $1 billion?!
Just a guess, though. Mark

I am convinced after receiving several so-called signed/autographed copies of the book... and seeing descriptions of copies for sell on the secondary market... that the only “authentic” DC autograph is the one offered through Premiere Collectibles. In my opinion, the “authograph” copies from BN and Shop Talk Live are from an auto pen machine. Anyone have their thoughts or know for sure?

My thoughts are that any book that wasn't actually handled by an author during the actual signing isn't a "signed" book worth collecting (for "autograph" purposes). If that's what is/was offered by Premiere Collectibles, then that's the one I'd want to own.
Edit: In the live signing video on Premiere Collectibles site, I see David Copperfield signing BOOKPLATES that aren't attached to books. Clearly those are live signatures but he is NOT handling the books they get attached to. At least, not in the part of the video that I watched. Mark

I'd be really surprised if they weren't authentic. I believe the Talk shop ones were the first autographed copies to be promoted. He even did an on-air interview with them to promote it. If it came out that they were faked, people would be ticked off and want refunds. Talk shop and Copperfield would lose all credibility. I don't think either one would want to risk that.
