Hey guys,
So this review will be in parts I think, since its huge, but here goes nothing: If you have followed Phedon's career, you know he only releases quality material like Proteus, Sibyl, and Phasma. Foreword by Michael Murray Foreword by Mark Chandaue Foreword by Madison Hagler Introduction Here Phedon explains the nature of Orion, and what it means to him. His portal so to speak. First routine: PHASMA Explains the ins and outs of Phasma, and how you can come to use it with anything with a few principles in play here. If you know Phasma, this is a nice refresher, if not, then you are in for a real treat. Side note: I have been using Phasma ever since I bought the book from MindFx, and have never looked back, it feels and looks like real mind reading Phedon here gives three examples, and also explains the verification and extra hits you get along the way. Second routine: RESTRICTED IMAGERY Using Phasma from above, and actually lets you try out the routine as you read. This is using a thought of drawing. Here he introduces the reader into a new principle, a novel concept, and a ploy, if you own Sibyl, you know this very well. He describes the Original routine without the principle and ploy, and the "evolved" routine as a whole, with script and everything. No stone is left unturned. He also goes over a 2.0 version with a physical object, that you have to read to believe, and actually try. It really is that powerful. Next section: THE CORRIDOR PLOY BY ORI ASCHER This ploy appears in Mavoch so if you have that, you already know this, if not this ploy can be used to narrow down/nail any piece of information. Next section: Restricted Imagery for Audiences Here he talks about the updated version of the above routine, and also an optional way to perform it with a physical prop. You don't have to do it this way, but you can opt to do it if you like. Next Routine: Stickier ( by Christopher Ambre & Morgan Strebler) Just another application of the Restricted Imagery, either doing it the safe way or the bold way. Disclaimers Phedon then discusses his thoughts on using disclaimers. Very good section and worth your time. Next routine: Indexed Imagery Phedon believes that this is something that you will give it a go. It is actually another evolution on restricted imagery. This reminds me a lot of linking a propless drawing divination with cold reading. The tools used are Phasma, a force that is explained, and a ruse. Side note: I have also used this and it kills! Its like you are reading the spectator's mind and also giving him/her a personal reading if you so wanted to, or you could play it off differently with a physical drawing. Everything is explained. This is really clever because you are forcing the drawing, but in unsuspecting way. Phedon also explains what happens if you do not hit and miss. Phedon also explains how you can link a propless drawing divination with an APP that many of you already have possibly. Next section: On Belief, Attitude, and Mindset This is one of the most important sections, although brief, this is what mentalism is all about. Next routine: PHASMATIC NAMES This is one of the strongest routines you can do for someone. It reminds me a bit of taking something, expanding it, then setting it up for a grand finale. What you need: Phasma, My Cousin Nick Reveal, and another principle on using names in the English language. I cant say enough good words about this routine. This section is like taking Peter Turner's Name Guess, and really playing with it, and milking it for all its worth. You get the original routine, and also if you opt you can also use a wallet(regular), and some photos. There is also a Simplified version, impromptu prop-less version. Phedon then describes PHASMATIC NAMES original version. The effect and bare bones. Then he describes PHASMATIC NAMES Version 2.0 which expands the first version and makes everything more impossible, and uses a new novel force which is brilliant. Reminds me a bit of the CUPS principle in a way by Michael Murray. You get to read what the audience experiences with scripting and everything. What you need: Phasma, the novel force mentioned above, and another new ploy. This reminded me of Proteus in a way. Next you will learn Nico Heinrich's adaptation of the novel force mentioned above. Same force but the 2.0 version. Next routine: SPONSORED IMAGERY This is another variation of Phasmatic Names What you need: The novel force mentioned above, Phasma (of course), and another new ploy. Next routine: Imagerized Phasmatic Names by Madison Hagler Madison's variation on using Phasma and some of the tools from the book. Next section: Justifications As always these essays or explanations are great, because you get to step into how Phedon thinks. He even explains what he does for the non-English speaking people. Next routine: PHASMATIC STONES using phasma, dealing with colors, and stones. This reminds me of the type of routine that Luca Volpe would perform. Side note: I personally didn't like this section, since it isn't within my performing style, but everyone is different. Next section: On Multipliers, and its explanation, as well as proposing choices, considering the revealer, physical contact, having the participant initiate the process, pauses, hesitating, near-missing, and subleties. Next principle: THE PHI FORCE Phedon goes over the force in detail, and gives examples, with scripting Next routine: DESMIC IMAGERY This is a great way to peek information using several techniques and ploys. This uses a billet. How would you like to elevate your peeks as a whole, using psychology, ruses, subterfuge, and more. If you are a fan of this, then this routine is a stand-out. You will learn: Divide and Rule tool, OUZO Subterfuge, one of the novel forces you read about above, the PHI force, and the Saturation ruse. Next routine: DESMIC IMAGERY by Scott Creasey Wait what? Yes, Scott Creasey. Next section: On Imagery- Phedon resorts to imagery a lot if you own Sibyl or Phasma, you already know. And finally to end Book #1 THE ONEIRONAUT The spectator fairly chooses a word from a random, borrowed book and the mentalist tries to divine it. Experiencing some difficulties, the mentalist proposes him/her to resort to imagery in the spectator's mind. He/She choose a color, and an object of his/her choice which relates to the color, and imagine herself in that environment. During this time, he/she are asked to imagine all the pages of the book blank, and to imagine the chosen word from the book. The mentalist explains that he was in the dream with he/she, and to prove it, he reveals the word. Then it goes further as to the mentalist divining several other elements that only the spectator would know. As always Phedon explains the tools, and principles used, and gives you a bare bones breakdown of the effect, including detailed process and explanations. OK, so that is it for Book #1. I personally use 3 things from section 1, including Phasma, which is the starting point or launching pad for many of the routines in Orion. I still need to review Part 2. Will do so in due time. I personally feel if you could get 1 routine, idea, principle, ploy, from this, then it is worth it, because you can use that for other routines, or create your own. Phedon gives you a plethora of principles, tools, ploys, and more, and tells you how to use them, but look at this as more of a MasterClass in learning a new tool or principle, using it in other routines, and for the rest of your life. Nobody will be able to take that away from you. Alex Alejandro
