Hi folks,
I read somewhere that Shigeo Futagawa -- or maybe Shigeo Takagi -- had a matrix-like assembly that used four cards with coins drawn on them instead of the usual four cards covering four coins. The coins drawn on three of the cards disappear one at a time, leaving the cards blank. The fourth card is turned over and found to have four coins drawn on it. Can someone direct me to instructions for this trick, or a marketed version of it? Sorry the question is so vague -- I looked on too many websites and lost track. Thanks for your help, Bob |

I know this isn't exactly what you're asking for but it's in the same vein and you may like it.

According to www.conjuringarchive.com there are two routines that fit the description... Hopefully, they fit whatever material(?) you have on hand:
Van McGee "Sticking Together" - In "The Trapdoor" — Volume Three (Issue 55) - Pictures of four coins on four cards travel on one card à la matrix Richard Bartram, Jr. - In "Trephine" The Congregation - Pictures of four coins on four cards travel on one card à la matrix, then coins become real |

As for the trick you're asking about, I believe it was by Shigeo Futagawa.
The same plot was released by David Acer called Pickpocket. https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S6732 |

Thanks to all of you. A Café member kindly PM'd me the following video, which is exactly the effect I'm looking for:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqRmvx143Gg . The (pictures of) coins assemble *one at a time* from the four corners to one corner -- a beautiful, whimsical effect. It's Jeff Pierce's "Ani-Matrix." I haven't been able to find it anywhere; would love to buy it as a marketed effect or an explanation. Darko, I've seen your enhanced version of Colombini's "Close Quarters" before, and love it. Great pacing at the end when you reveal the real quarter and then wait before you show that the drawn quarter has disappeared. It isn't quite what I'm looking for at the moment, though. Similarly for Coinless Matrix and PickPocket. Is anyone familiar with the tricks that PaulPosition referenced? (Thanks, Paul!) I'm curious whether they have that "traveling one coin at a time" aspect that I'm after. I appreciate all your ideas. Bob |

Bob, the Van McGee trick "Sticking Together" looks very much like the effect you described in your OP.
It's easy (only use a Rumba Count - and no R&S) and is very effective according to Steve Beam. |

Dear Tortuga, CardGuyMike, and Claudio,
Thanks for the leads. I'm following them up. While I'm here, does anyone know in which issue of Trapdoor Beam published McGee's trick? Beam sells the complete run in three volumes on his website, and this trick is in Vol. 3. But each volume is $90 + shipping, so I'm hoping to find a copy of the single issue that the trick originally appeared in. Bob |

Best of luck with your endeavor, this has been an interesting read at the very least.
