I did not find the time to open it yet, but I tried the "cover-with-music" variant. that one works well in a living room situation. I used a little divoon-speaker (one with such a 32/32 pixel-graphic) on 3/4 of volume. a level, you can still talk over, but the music is like you would play at any party you do not want the ppl to scream to each other but also listen to the music. the advantage of a bt-speaker is, that you can place it next to the portal on your table, which covers the sound much better than coming from a speaker from the opposite side of the room. I choose "money, money, money" from abba, the refrain. the falling of the coin you can hear, if you know about, the transport is perfectly covered. I'm quite happy with this first try. during the holidays I will open it up anyhow, but I'm very sure I will use it as the final to another coin routine...
p.s.: and using a speaker with an animation playing on it, gives you a reason to bring it in play too... |

Anyone have any new performance videos of Portal? Keen to see what variations you have come up with

How about (everything from performer's perspective):
- coin signed, inverted glass front left, shot glass mid right (where it needs to be), wand near back of pad (close to performer) - French drop (RH "take"), LH (with coin in finger palm) drops behind inverted glass (over "spot"), and two things happen at the same time (covering "drop" sound): --- coin from LH palm released into pad (making noise) --- RH mimes placing coin on the inverted glass (causing anticipated noise) - empty LH takes wand, rubs back of RH fingers. RH raised to reveal vanish of coin - wand placed horizontally on pad with its right-most tip about 1" from the shot glass - RH takes inverted glass, scraping it across the wand (covering "polaroid" sound) - inverted glass covers shot glass as LH takes wand to tap glass for the coin to miraculously appear

I bought Portal by TCC through their Kickstart offering. For me Portal is much too noisy for any type of close up or parlor work. I am interested at hearing what kind of cover noise could be created to mask the sound of Portal’s inner workings.

A local magic friend bought Portal as well. We all agreed the noise made it impossible to perform. He purchased a small Bluetooth speaker linked to his phone and said that the trick was SO dramatic it needed dramatic music. He then turned on the music track (Phantom of the Opera in his case) and performed the trick. It worked perfectly to disguise the noises.

I bought a Portal when they first came out on Kickstarter. There was a link to a tutorial video. I went back to review it today and the link and password go to a different trick now. How do I get back to the original video?
