Being from China, not sure what the composition of all this is. They are said to be chrome plated. They ring very well, so assuming brass underneath. There are a few tiny 'kinks' in the plating, but they're $79 that came with a DVD
The pictured area below - the reddish & green blemishes w/ the odd crescent moon shadow connecting them - gives me concern. The look doesn't bother me (it is more prominent in the photos than live), however, if this represents something that will worsen over time, causing chipping, cracking or whatever, I will no doubt return them. Any assist on this would be appreciated. I used to know more about all this, but memories fade. I've seen green-ish patina before in (iirc) brass/bronze, but showing thru chrome (?) plate seems odd. But like I said, I know just enough to be dangerous.

Hoping someone with some knowledge will comment here - I am contemplating a return, but would like to know first if the blemishing here represents something that will eventually damage the chrome finish or the metal beneath.

Mark, it appears the area of the red is actually the copper base of either the cup or the virgin copper showing through due to poor preparation of the cup. The blue you see is the nickel plate.
The first plate layer is virgin copper, the second is nickel. Since Nickel has a natural blue hue to it, it has to go through a wash process to remove the bluing effect. After that is done, a chromium coating is the final step of the plating process. Hope this helps. -Frederick PS. I'm sorry, I just re-read your description, the greenish color is oxidation most likely from air or the chemical bath they put them through. For 79.00 you have a nice set of cups. with the exception of the blemishes. I magically remove dents from my cups by turning the dents to the back
