Then you could began the routine with Marc’s cards for the guessing part and it shouldn’t be too difficult to create a plausible reason to change to the custom cards and finish with the Icon matching. This would hopefully add an interesting and entertaining twist in the presentation as well. So you wouldn’t even use the E Wave board. I think if presented properly changing from one set of cards to another could make complete sense and not arouse suspicion. Plus, it may in the end create an even more entertaining overall routine. Any way, just a thought. Albeit a pretty expensive one. 😃 |

I agree partially. Although Astor’s creation is transparant and can be shown on both sides there is also smth very illogical about it: why not just turn the cards over but first put them in a very magic prop looking frame? I think this is where E-wave has a distinct advantage. You just turn the cards over. Except for the finish, of course. Which is why I adressed that as suspect in my first post in this topic.

Well Marc doesn’t just turn them over, he shimmy’s around with them from a fan as if he is transfering something across from one to another before showing them? Very good but hardly just turning them over Gaz 😊

I don't think spectators/friends will care about the end reveal. Most of them don't dabble in mentalism or magic and will just have a good time watching this happen. I don't create big effects and appreciate the work put in to this. The person you perform for won't say they wish you did so and so's ESP effect and not this one. Marc did great and I am happy to own this. The end reveal is a bit of fun and even in his performances of this isn't overly serious and just smiling. This isn't an effect where you try to be a cocky serious person pretending to read minds. You just entertain.

While I’m quite sure laymen would see Astor’s creation as a magic prop and have a clue what’s happening. But again: this is speculation. I don’t have either in my possession.

I have E-Wave.
First impressions- superb. I will need to practice the handling for the first phases, especially how the cards 'look' from the audience's perspective, when I fan them out. To randomly address a few comments/ opinions/ questions here: Cards and board are very well made and will last; I suspect angles can be managed well from a few feet, but I'll need to test this; Marc cautions against showing too many lucky matches in the final phase, in the E-Wave tutorial; you can indeed cover up the row of symbols and reveal them to be a match, AFTER the 'bar' is shown (an interesting approach to explore). The final revelation imo doesn't in any way look suspicious, ESPECIALLY when you take into account that each symbol card has been shown singly during the routine. They are now just being placed into five positions on a bar, and this bar is lifted and turned around. The psychological context is crucial here. Just watch the reactions to Nique and Marc's performances. The final reveal gets a very strong reaction from ordinary folk, perhaps the strongest reactions of all. |

I watched the tutorial, it is very clear and detailed, as usual for Marc Oberon's effects. If you normally don't do much handling of cards, this may take you a slight bit longer to practice at the start. Just some basic handling is all that is needed. The final reveal that has been questioned a few times does not have to be done in too questionable of a manor.
As for close up, it wouldn't be great for me to do within 3-5 feet. But it can be done closer than standard stage distance easily. It's all a matter of what you are comfortable with and managing your angles would be the biggest issue if you tried this right next to people. Marc does teach a way to do this without using the board for the final reveal, if you wish to do it that way and use the cards for walk-around performances. This is made well and I am ready to start practicing for a bit. |

I was following the discussion here a few days and kept silent. But here is my opinion: I think Marc created a great routine (and I mean routine); the routine bears a lot of very nice subtleties, builds up and the props are of very good quality and do not look like "magic props".
But still, here is, what I added... if you know and own Marc's routine you see what I have added/changed. Pay attention what I have done to the upper corners. Nevertheless, I really like Marc's creation. Well done! Jan Click here to view attached image.
