61 effects. That's how many tricks from this series I just put post-it notes on to "start working on immediately."
I just finished reading the Art of Astonishment books for the first time and I'm blown away. These three books contain such an incredible wealth of knowledge and starting places for me to explore my own thoughts or interpretations of these tricks. I know many on this forum are fans of Paul Harris' work, but as someone who has now only been at this card magic thing for ~3 years, I have to say: GO GET THIS SERIES! It was not only fun to read, but also gave me so many ideas on counts, routines and concepts that I just haven't gotten from reading many of the traditional starting places. Not to say that the Card College and Royal Road books don't have their places for someone starting out, but if you are past that initial phase, GO GET THIS SERIES. Now I have to figure out if I can parlay my raving review into a commission check somewhere... oh and start practicing my 61 effects... "Hey Siri, can you find me more time in the day?" |

The joy of reading these books cannot be beaten - When it came to learning the routines I found the "True Astonishments " DVDs very helpful.

Of course, if you're revisiting these treasure troves for the first time in a while, I think it could be equally helpful.
