With the slew of these colorful special coins now be offered on the Internet, I begin thinking of magic effects that can be done with them.
Perhaps impromptu when you come across one or are offered one when requesting a coin from the audience. At 2" diameter they are too large for many sleights and handlings, but I have methods that can work. The question is whether it is worth the effort to create and publish effects using these objects. As a Viet Nam Vet I do not like some of the hype being used in the marketing. You might demonstrated appreciation with the giving of one of these, but it is not a show of patriotism. These are collector items and little more, and some folks may buy them just as they were pins on the their cap. Just me. Thus, I won't carry one but, as a performer, want to be prepared for them as "special objects" - even with a magical significance for some. Also, given that larger coins like dollars and half are "unusual objects," should coin workers be looking alternative objects for their skills? a 1/2 fender washer is the same size for practice, so no need to spend $5-12 dollars or a coin just to play with.
"the more one pretends at magic, the more awe and wonder will be found in real life." Arnold Furst
