Dr. Michael Rubinstein release a new coins across called Migrate. It has the moans, the groans, and puns sure to make your magic memorable. It comes in a Poker chip (dollar size) and Deluxe version (half dollar size).
Pros: - Unique plot and the puns - Poker Chips aren't coins - No truly difficult sleights - Poker chips are colorful - The teaching is top notch - Bears Cons: - You may need to create your own patter - Poker Chips might be a learning curve if you aren't use to dollar size coins You can purchase it from Mike himself or from https://www.mymagic.com/p/money-magic/migrate In essence Migrate is a coins across that has the coins move or migrate from one hand to the other 3 times, with the final coin migrating to a spectators closed hand. I have been carrying the poker chip version with me since I bought them. I have been doing this for coworkers and family / friends. I do have a little festival upcoming that I will get more flight time with it, but I can say that the reactions have been great and it has been really fun to preform. Migrate is an intermediate effect in my eyes. If you have already been working with coins then you should find at least one of these sets easy enough to get into. I work exclusively with half dollars, but I took the route of using the poker chips. I did have a hard time that first week working not only with a larger object, but I also had not worked with poker chips either. After a week of practice though I was able to manageably work through the entire set. What do you get - a purse and 5 coins or 5 poker chips. The coins are half dollar and the poker chips are dollar size. I have added pictures underneath. The Deluxe has the nice leather looking bear and coins that have a bear on one side and a prospector on the reverse side. These look great and have the same feels as a clad Kennedy half dollar. The come with some patina that you can clean up but I won't do that as that is my preference. The poker chip version comes with a soft bear head purse and has a mean looking bear on the front with a blue profile bear on the back. In the routine you talk about the bears migrating in the alps, I told kids I was doing this for that the bears had there mouths open because they were yodeling in the alps. It wasn't a pun, but it got the results. The poker chips also have a nice surprise to them. They are shimmed and stick to a magnet. This can make ditching that pesky last coin a bit easier. The routine itself is not for everyone. I used it and love it, but I like those awful puns. It fits with my style. It may not fit with yours, but it is Dr. Rubinstein's way of preforming magic. The puns and story are crafted quite well around the moves and migrations of the coins. You can easily make different patter for this effect to suit your needs such as bears breaking out the the zoo, bears sneaking out at night to drink with there buddies the beavers, or just coins going across because . . . magic. Do the style that fits you, but know that if you don't do it as is you will have to create your own. Teaching on this is great. Front and over the shoulder camera angles have been used and it is all clear picture. The sound quality for this was great as well. All moves were explained with a good amount of detail, which should come as now surprise since Dr. Rubinstein is an excellent teacher. The video is just shy of an hour long and covers the moves for both the coin and poker chip routines. The way this is taught really should be the standard. There would be better magicians in the world if this were the case. So many downloads these days are just dreadful. Overall I thought the teaching was done exceptionally well. Overall this is a great effect that feels different then a normal coins across. That really is its best trait. I would recommend it highly. If you are looking for a unique item to set you apart migrate over and get yours today. |

Update: I did performed Migrate about 40 times last week. It played very well, but the patter does fit me. People were really getting a kick out of it.
Those chips are still hard to handle at times, I would still recommend it! |

Thanks Andy! It does take a bit to get used to dollar sized coins/chips after working with half dollars! I found that finger palm sometimes felt awkward, and when I was pointing at my other hand with the chip in finger palm, I found it was more natural to just press the chip against the palm which gave the bend of my fingers a more natural look. Of course, hand size is so important for that as well. For classic palming dollar sized poker chips, it sometimes helps to make your palms a bit sticker by many of the methods out there. An old idea was to have a sucking candy in your mouth, and before starting secretly lick your palms. The sugar creates just a bit of tack that allows you to palm better. Of course, so does glycerin and rose water! Anyway, glad you are enjoying the trick!!
I find that there are lines which generate big laughs, and some which don't but keep the humor going. Remember that not every line has to be a laugh getter, it just keeps the tone light. Enjoy!!
