The GREAT ones that I have met are:
Duke Stern Olaf T. Gyllick Don Allen Neil Foster Senator Clark Crandall Jay Marshall Harry Blackstone Jr. Jack Gwynne Karrol Fox Dai Vernon Russ Walsh I’ve meet them all at Abbots Magic Conventions during the 60’s. God rest their souls! Posted: Dec 28, 2004 7:18pm Sorry Troops it was not "Dai Vernon" but Ed Marlo that I met. Just too much over medication, I guess.

I only have a video, but to me " Tony Hassini" gets my vote. Its just his happy character that captures my attention. hes always got a natural smile along side his natural movements. Its deceptive I guess.

I was always facinated with magic . Houdini was the first magician I remember reading about. His biography was unbelievable. I then read the autobiography of John Scarne "The Odds Against Me" another great story. Today at 49 I am still facinated to see magic presented that really looks like magic. Magicians I've seen perform and met include Eugene Burger,Mack King,Dan Fleshman, Aldo Columbini,Michael Ammar ,Max Maven,Jim Pace there are others but my point is they are all great entertainers.and they make you feel like what is happening is really magic.

Ah yes, Ugene Burger. A man with a wonderful story telling voice. I had nearly missed him as another of my favorites.

My list would have to include
Johhny Thompson Eugene Burger Max Maven I am only including those who I still may see. There are also those who are too young to be on the magicians of old but Jeff McBride doesn't have long before getting on that list. |

Jimmy Grippo was phenominal and Johnny Paul certainly lived up to his name of the amusing and confusing Johnny Paul.
I would have love to meet John Scarne, Doc Daily, Francis Carlyle, and Del Ray. Steve |

3. Theo Annemann. Brilliant, master of both cards AND mentalism. I would like to have talked him out of his last act.
2. Bruce Elliot sounds like an EXTREMELY good guy. One of my favorite stories on this whole site is Vinny's story about how they met. 1. Rene Guerra was my magic teacher 30 years ago. He was not the most expert sleight of hand guy, but nobody was funnier or nicer, and nobody had a better ability to "manage" an audience. He is probably not known by anyone outside of the Erie area, but he really knew how to entertain an audience. A great heart on this man! |

Instead those I would like to see perform, this list is the top three I would love to have been able to have a converstion with and why.
1) Wilmont Barclay and Houdini to find out if Barclay really did teach Houdini the handcuff escape act. 2)Theo Annemann to find out how he did his version of the Bullet Catching Act. 3)Doug Henning because his Water Torture Cell on his 1975 (?) television special is the first "magical" memory I have. |

The following people have had a great influence in my love and study of magic:
Mark Wilson Houdini Jean Hugard Henry Hay Dai Vernon Alex Elmsley Nelson T. Downs Nick Trost Paul Diamond I loved watching Mark Wilson's T.V. show every Sat. morning and that's how the Magic bug bit me. Tony Curtis' portrayal in the movie "The Great Houdini" pushed me further over the edge. Countless books and magazines (Linking Ring, Genii) stoked the fire. The packet tricks of Nick Trost kept me going and Paul Diamond got me into what I love the best, Coins And Cards. I've never made a penny doing magic for a living, but my life would be boring without it...I love magic. <<<KraZy4kardz>>>

The following is a partial list of my all time favorite magicians, in no particular order:
Channing Pollock Cardini General Grant Rico Vito Lupo Fred Kaps Amos Levkovitch Dale Salwak Dick Gustavson Posted: Apr 4, 2005 7:19pm And (I almost forgot): The Great Tomsoni and Trixie (The Dove Act)
Channing Pollack is my idea of the perfect magician. For those of you that have not seen him perform, I recommend trying to get hold of a video of an old movie called "European Nights" made about 1959.
I was able to buy this video from Stevens Magic |

There are many of the greats that I would have like to have seen perform and most have already been named. A few that were not mentioned in past posts that I would like to have seen are Ching Ling Foo, any of the Bambergs, and Billy Robinson (AKA the "Man Of Mystery") better known as Chung Ling Soo.
There have been many (too many to list here) who influenced my magic. A short list of those who I have met, become friends with, and that have influenced my magic greatly are Jerry Andrus, Tony Anverdi, John Calvert, Karrell Fox, Doug Henning, Stewart James, Little Johnny Jones, Fred Kaps, Roy Kissel, Sid Lorraine, Jay Marshall, Bruce Posgate, Tony Slydini, Bob Stencil, Juan Tamariz, Dai Vernon, and Tommy Wonder. Take care and take cards Antony Gerard |
