I had the opportunity yesterday to stop by and speak with Martin Lewis. He showed me this product and I was very impressed with how well it's made and the absolute ease of the workings. I had a very similar effect years ago that I really liked but you had to be so careful how you lined up the dots. With this version first of all it's made to look more like a die than a domino and secondly it is designed in a way where when it is time to do the inner workings the dots are lined up perfectly without you even having to look at it.
Practice time you can probably have this down pat and about one hour's time. The moves are natural and take a very specific pattern that is well within the reach of the vast majority of magicians If you like this affect then I very much highly recommend this particular version for the ease of the working and the workmanship of the product but that is to be expected coming from Martin Lewis. If you have any questions you could check Martin Lewis's web page. Good magic to all, Eric |

I would love to see any version of Dots Next that doesn't look horrible!
I think the only person being fooled by some versions is the performer fooling themself |

This looks really good, and I will be picking one up. I use the Nielsen Dinamo spot card all the time, which is also quite nice and easy to use. As I understand it Martin Lewis's version uses a special something to place the dots precisely where they are supposed to go.

I used to use the Domino one. And looking back I have to laugh now because I would try to use it and look at the spectator but yet I had to keep in my peripheral vision the Domino so I would know where the dot Was going to be placed and make sure it was in the right spot. With Martin Lewis's version you do not have to look at it at all you could keep it in front of you talked to them and actually while you're showing them the dots on one side you're doing all the necessary work on the other and it flies by with total undetectable moves. Only if you know what to look for will you notice it and even then it would be very difficult. And I will say this again if you perform this kind of magic when you hold this item in your hand you will never go back to another version.

On another note I would like to say the teaching on this is absolutely superb. Martin Lewis does a split screen teaching at one point where you have the audience view on one side and the over-the-shoulder view of Mr Lewis on the other where he shows you the moves and you could see them in a juxtaposition teaching. Now as most of you know I think very highly of mr. Martin Lewis and I've come to expect nothing but the absolute finest products coming from him because I've seen him toil and labor over ideas and he does this with putting out the best product as his motive. I honestly believe anyone who purchases this will be more than happy with the workmanship that went into this and the ease of handling for the magician.

After watching the video again, and reading Eric's last comments, I went ahead and ordered. I've always liked this trick, and have performed it since I was little (with a smaller version, of course), and the last phases have always surprised and fooled people. I think the presentation on this one (a good story or whatever) is kind of important.
Seems like everyone is out of it, except Martin's website. So, a lot of people must like it, or no other dealers have gotten it. As mentioned earlier, Lewis attention to detail when manufacturing his effects is always very, very good. |

Martin Lewis's website is Magikraft.com and he is very quick on getting orders mailed out.
Dooblehorn I honestly believe you will enjoy this version very much. Performers who have used this particular effect know the pitfalls we all have faced in the past. This version takes care of those. Good magic to all, Eric |

I love the classics and remember this plot very well from seeing it in my childhood and I used to perform previous versions of it also. Thank you for bringing this up the great Gumbini. Ordering from such a great creator as Martin Lewis was a no brainer for me.

Leosx1 you are very welcome. I also remember using the older versions years ago that's why it awakened the little kid in me when I watched Martin perform this. On a funny note I don't know exactly what this says but so far I have shown this to people who have never seen this before. I always felt that just about everyone had seen this but I guess it's been so many years hence that saying what's old is New Again.

I've been asked a couple of times how easy and fast is this to pick up on? I can now do it without even looking at the board and honestly without even thinking of the moves that need to be done. I'd say after a little over an hour working with it you will feel comfortable to perform this but put in another hour or two practicing it without looking and you will have this down pat. Believe it or not it's one of the easiest effects I've ever learned the teaching is that good.
Hope that helps if anyone has any other questions please feel free to ask me here or PM. Good magic to all, Eric |

I also got an update from the Lewis's that this is now back in stock so it should be easier to find them again.

I received this and had a chance to practice with it a bit. The prop is made with precision -- the dots stay just where they are supposed to, so with practice there should not be any reason to peek at the card while doing the moves. I'm not there yet. I also like that the dots are large and should be visible from quite a distance.
Martin Lewis's online instructions are short and cut to the chase after a brief history of this type of effect. The video runs through the moves twice, first flipping between the spectator's view and an over-the-shoulder view, and then again with the over-the-shoulder view in a picture-in-picture frame. For me the picture-in-picture presentation was much easier to follow, and I still had to review it a handful of times to get the sequence of moves down. It is not a difficult routine, but it merits a couple of hours of practice in front of the mirror to get it down. In short, I agree with The Great Gumbini: If you like this type of effect, you should be happy with this version. |

Very nice review Magical Scientist. You will have this down in no time. If I can help you please feel free to PM me. And I certainly agree the picture in picture tutorial is the best part. I ran it a few times while holding the card as he does I had to stop at a few times to make sure my hands were in the right spots and that is what really helped me to get this down quickly. I really do love this particular effect.

Late to ask about this, but can anyone that has both (or even if you don't) compare this to Confusing Die by John Fabjance?
The 1 to 6 spot card looks bigger, but other than that, looks like it has the same things to help out with placement of the dots. https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S15533 |
