I know that The Origami Box is a Jim Steinmeyer illusion, but does he sell any plans to build one yourself? Or is it an illusion that is only authorized to be built by certain people?

This isn't even a question for myself - I'm not a very handy person, but a friend of mine is wondering if plans exist.

Thanks!

No plans exist that I know of. This is one that must be purchased from an AUTHORIZED builder and I believe there is only 1.

You can buy used or preowned plans for illusions at http://www.magicauction.com . I have seen the Origami Box in the auction before so you might try looking there.

I may be wrong, but I think there are TWO authorized builders -- Gaughan and Wellington.

Starrpower is right. It says so right there on MagicAuction. Just follow the first link, the one that muzicman left. Read the page when you are there.

Therefore, only those authorized builders should have the plans.

Yup Wellington sure sells it on their site and they have two versions. One by Luis De matos and one by Greg Frewin.

I am so sorry. I mistook the Origami for Walking through the Mirror. Just a confusion. I was actually in the middle of something. Thanks for the correction magicspinx. Here is the link for the Wellington Origami: http://www.wellingtonent.com/document/origami.html

Wellington also sells the one where you break the mirror first and use broken shards of the mirror in place of the swords.

That's the Greg Frewin version mentioned on Wellington's website.

Call John Gaughan. He is the only true builder!

A Funny True story
I will never forget a funny story (or line) that Billy McComb said at a New Zealand convention he attended. This was just after Copperfield appeared on NZ TV with Origami. A magician had made up what he thought was the origami with improvements ... but he got it all wrong and the whole 'base' concept was completely wrong. In fact the base was so big that Billy McComb said, "wow, how did he fit only ONE girl in there!!" Needless to say after the uproar about the copy he never performed it again.

I have to disagree, Tinman. Have you seen Wellington's stuff? Nice!

My opinion is that Gaughan does the best. He has also taken very good care of us when we had a repair to be made on ours.
When building he took great time with us in choosing our artwork for it as well making sure we were pleased with what we had.

TinMan4 -

It says on the http://www.magicauction.com/IllusionHotl......ghts.htm webpage that BOTH Wellington AND John Gaughan are authorized to make the Origami Illusion, that Jim Steinmeyer created. And ONLY those two builders.

This webpage is one of the webpages that discusses building rights, and is linked in the second post on this thread. Take the link way back in the second post (or as I have copied it here in this post), and read it there for yourself. Hope this helps to clear up your confusion.

Wellington IS an authorized builder of Origami. Jim and Bill have had a relationship since the Henning shows.
