Stargazer! Not just because Alan is a good friend, but because its a great effect. With the right patter or story line, Stargazer could really leave an emotional and magical mark on a spec. Another bonus is the fact that when stretched the stargazer works and looks like a regular band, so you can use it for Crazyman's Handcuffs.

Yes, but as mentioned from Rannie, you can use it like a regular band, eg. for CMH.

If I have to choose between Stargazer and colour changing knives, I would choose Stargazer.

Marco.

Man this is like comparing apples to tuna fish! There is no comparison as to “which is better!” The only thing they have in common is that they can be magic tricks (notice that I didn’t say “are magic tricks”!) and they can fit into the pocket.

You have already heard that you can use the Star Gazer prop for one of the rubber bands in a CMH routine then end with the Star Gazer routine. It suggests that you get two tricks for the price of one. Actually if you know a few more Rubber Band tricks you can get even more mileage from the prop.

Color Changing Knives can also be a versatile prop. You can use one of the knives early in your show to, say, do a card stab, to cut open a lemon for your bill to lemon trick (actually you should close on this one), and so forth.

If you are just looking at the basic routine that comes with the prop then the color changing knives is the way to go. It will simply give you more bang (or magic) for your buck. A basic color changing knife routine will play much longer than the basic Star Gazer routine.

Both props may be used for multiple purposes. The real question here is can you use either one of them for even their intended purpose?

I still don't know how to do CMH. Should I get the Color Changing knives instead? Or should I still go for stargazer?

Perhaps a better start point for you is to learn CMH!

However if you are limiting yourself to one or the other prop then I think a good set of color changing knives is a better buy.

That said, if you live in a country where carrying a pocketknife would get you into big trouble then don’t buy the knives. In the USA right now any kid going into a school with even the smallest of knives will get suspended or expelled for carrying a deadly weapon.

When all is said and done you must choose the trick and prop that best fits your performing needs.

Listen to Harry. The man speaks with wisdom.

As for me, I have both effects. However, I have never performed the color changing knives, preferring the Hot Rod instead. On the other hand, I carry Stargazer with me everywhere I go. It can be a great impromptu routine especially when you know a couple of other rubber band tricks. If you don't know CMH yet, do the Jumping Rubber Band trick that is taught in every magic book. Although it is a simple trick, MANY spectators are simply amazed at this effect! PM me if you'd like my routine or tips.

After the Jumping Band effect you could finish off with Stargazer and leave them the Stargazer souvenir with your business card if you like. Watch out though, cuz if you perform this often and like to leave souvenirs, it could get very expensive. But if you get a booking out of this, it would more than pay for itself and much more.
