Just for.. little bit vitality on this forum, I think it will be really good to talk about our card games that are popular in your country.
Hope you participate a lot!! I will go first. I'm from Korea, def south one lol. in Korea we usually play low ball poker(바둑이) and little bit variant of 7 stud poker(it is called 세븐오디)! So let's start with low ball. In Korea we bet 3 times for each game and we call it like (breakfast, lunch and dinner). And other rules are same but there is a little different with other countries. The game is only played without trained dealer(Like on the first round I deal and the next round you deal and shuffle and something like that). Like it's just a friendly game and it is not played in casino. So now it's time to shake your heart. Yeah I will talk about how Korean hustlers do. They usually stack the card(usually in hand riffle shuffle is famous but they always need to do hindu shuffle either so they mix them usually). And they don't use cut card but they also use the flat deal so they don't prefer bottoms or seconds. But like there are some exceptions like some games, players are allowed to hold card to deal and in the past decade, actually all the Korean hustlers used Robinson bottom due to their hand size and the way normal people grip the card. And it's a big secret but.. all the Korean hustlers sucks lol. Like they do like a hustler not a magician but don't expect someone like forte or England or someone like those. And also they only do "OK BOTTOMS" not a "GOOD BOTTOMS". "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mjLTNvjm74" - How Korean do bottoms during flat deal Next we will talk about variant of 7 stud poker. As far as I remember official rule of 7 stud, they get 3 cards and they start to bet. In Korea, we get 4 cards and we must discard one(Nice chance for hold out hihi). and except those, there are no special rules sadly. Before I finish this one I would like to summarize the unique style to play cards. 1. Always shuffles are done in hands with a hindu shuffle 2. They can't sail the cards so they push the cards to each player. 3. They like to use devices, like reader or marked deck with special lens or hold out devices which looks like a purse. 4. In Korea there is a quote "If you cheat I will gonna crash your wrist" but it is never done before. Instead there are articles that 2 cheater are dead because of the guy who lost his money. 5. Korean hustlers are really suck. "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzFiBFpQSTQ" - He is one of the legend in Korea and even there is a movie(타짜1) about him. 6. Korean hustlers never save the money. I can say NEVER. Like when they get some money, they use them all to buy some drinks and they do the internet poker which is known as a graph game and they lose all of their earnings. That's why they always back to the game and keep doing their job... thanks for reading hope you like it, and if you have more questions on Korea gambling culture, feel free to ask everything! I will gladly answer you. |

Ohh yeah that's one of the really good source!!
And I forgot to say this but all the Korean hustlers learn from person. Like they pay few thousand dollars and meet him in the motel and they teach only one technique for few hours |

If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

It is the same in Monte Carlo where the residents are not allowed to play in the casino there.
It is a good idea because all casinos do is take money out of the game. When the games are underground the players and the operators keep the money going around on the street.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

It's just that whenever you see people in movies or dramas playing go stop aggressively, they tend to be middle aged housewives playing for a penny a point. I got into the korean gambling genre via the Hong Kong movies -- God of Gambling and the vatious Mahjong gambling movies like Fat Choi Spirit. I developed a real passion for Chou Yun Fat and Andy Lau. But although they were great in the 80's and 80's, once the communists seized responsibility for Hong Kong, the film making industry went down the tubes. Anti-heroes like gamblers couldn't be seen to be successful any more. So by the turn of the century, the best Asian movies were all coming out of South Korea. I've seen the first and the last of the Tazza movies, but I think the TV drama is better than the movies because it has so much more time to go into the depth of the culture. But there are a couple of great movies about people gambling on baduk (Go) as well. And a lot of the general crime movies will tend to be set in the illegal gambling scene -- where the gangsters are running illegal casinos. People betting on video poker for coupons or prizes which are then redeemable (in a seperate establishment) for cash. Again, from my reading, a lot of the illegal gambling in Japan seems to be run by South Koreans. I know they were marginalized and regarded as outsiders for many years -- brought over as slave labour and then refused full citizenship, and so the Yakuza was one of the few areas where they could make a living, so lots of the Pachinko places are owned by Zainichi. I've become somewhat obsessed with South Korea since I started watching the movies. We know almost nothing about it in the UK because we don't have the historical connections that the USA has with the place, but it's such a beautiful country with such a tragic history. Had it not been for Covid, I would have visited the place by now It's definitely the next place on my travel bucket list though.I'm not much interested in Seoul, but the smaller places across the rest of the country all look fascinating. |
