If I already have a Boston Box, do I still need an Okito Box?
The Boston Box can do everything an Okito Box can do, right? Thanks. |

Except you can show the Okito box' bottom and allow a spectator to freely handle it. Not so with a Boston Box.

There is a difference in the Boston and Okito box. First, the Boston box is just a trick box. You can do anything with the Boston box as the Okito except you can not show the bottom. If you are skilled in Okito box magic, then it is no problem to use it as an Okito box.
The reason why the Boston box was made is because you can show the box is full when it really isn't. |

The Boston can do everything an Okito can (except as noted above), but the Okito can't do everything the Boston can. A lot of workers who use the Boston like to switch in an Okito at the end of the routine, leaving everything on the table.
Do you need both? Up to you.

I recently got an Okito/Boston box combination set from Roy Kueppers in Canada and they go very well together as Scott says.
When they arrived, I thought to myself "why has he sent me two boxes and one lid"..... I of course now understand how they compliment one another. The Boston allows certain moves, displays, added convincers that in my opinion enhance the effects and would recommend getting both, if your budget allows. Regards Alan |

Part of the magic of the Okito box is its pure simplicity.
Being able to show a simple brass box with no hidden trap doors, recesses, slips, slides, hidden coins, slots, etc. is one of the major selling points of the Okito box. When you pull out a brass box to do magic with it - to me it SCREAMS "MAGICAL PROP". Without debating the pros and cons of letting spectator's inspect your props - the Okito box' strength is its utter simplicity - a spectator can acknowledge that yes, it is a simple brass box. I own 3 Okito boxes, 2 slot boxes, 2 Boston boxes, and a BO Box. What is really great is when you can switch in a box after an Okito was in use an inspected, or even better work a routine using a spectator's hand that puts the box in their hand as part of the routine. |

Dan in your Okito box routine, the beyond one, I've looked and looked at it and I can't for the life of me see when you flipped it over. I almost started to think it was a gimmicked box that the bottom slide up and down on... lol.
Love how you pushed the box through the hand, though I don't think that grabbing the other box when your hand is off camera would work in front of spectators. Love your work, more videos! I've got Roth Vol I. and I've watched your videos about 10x as many as Roth's. I picked up a Buddah okito box and look forward to finding routines and such to use it in! |

Your right, grabbing the box off camera does not work in real life - the real version of that routine is meant to be done standing with a spectator. I have the real version written up in my new manuscript coming out.

Hi Dan, I agree that the turnover move your doing is executed perfectly, I have watched it a lot and still cant see it.
Great stuff indeed and a great routine. Regards Alan |

Yes, the initial turnover to produce the coins in the box, and after pushing the coins through the hand you lift the lid of the box off while its still on your hand... how on earth you managed to flip it over in either case is beyond me! You rock!
Is there any reason why you have multiples of each box? Just different stylings that you liked or some other reason? Do you have the Budda style, and if so do you like it more then the others? |

I own the Buddha line of coin boxes (Okito, Boston, plug, sucker and magnetic Okito), Roy Keupper's Okito & Boston box and also the Beyond Okito box.
I like the Buddha boxes as the weight is just right for me. The main thing that attract me to get these boxes is the shape. However the Buddha boxes are more difficult to classic palm then the normal boxes.

Budda is not a type of box, it is a brand of box.
I have the different Boxes because I bought sets of them (well some sets were given to me). They all serve different purposes. Truth be told, I don't really carry them with me. They are fun to play with and you can do some neat things with them, but given limited time constraints there are other routines I would rather do just using coins then coins and some weird little box. |

I've heard of a Beyond Okito Box or a BoBox. How is that different from a normal one?

Dan has reviewed the BO Box (does anyone else find that name funny? I mean, is the box really that stinky?) at his site. Check it out in the review section there.

On a related note I urge you all to check out Chad Longs boston box routine. It is an absolute killer.
I saw it on a lecture video from international magic in the UK but I belive it is on Chads "cheesey magic" video as well. Its essentially a matrix styled assembly to the box with a jawdropping backfire. Simply brilliant. |

I have an Okito/ Boston and Small in quarter
size as well as a JO-PRO box from Johnson. I never hear anyone talk about these quarter size boxes although they work rather well. they do require somwhat more skill and practice to be used properly.

So to sum up then Dan , would you say the BO box makes an Okito / Boston look limited in some ways.
I read your write up and watched the videos (yours and the advertising video) and it does look pretty good. Regards Alan |

I got permission to tip what the BO Box from The Trickery in my upcoming manuscript which includes the "Penetrating Okito and Beyond" routine. So if you get he manuscript, you can decide for yourself if you want to buy a BO Box. I got the final editing on the manuscript back and just have to incorporate them and it is finally ready for sale. Oh and ChessMess... Quote:

I'm learning
Did your sticky coins routine, I love that one. No gimicks or gaffs, just good ole sleight of hand. Do you want a beginner to review your manuscript to ensure its not over our heads One question about your manuscript, do you also teach the moves as well. Like your Goshman backclip or other things not in Bobo... do I have to buy other materials and learn those slieghts in order to be able to do the routines in your manuscript? Oh and if you have php and mysql available on your website I can install a CMS system to really juice up your site for ya.. just PM me. ChessMess President, Dan Watkins Fan Club |
