Ok, I watched Nique’s review video on this. I think this is a fun thing to use if you don’t own something like Flux. If you use something like Flux or if you know Timon’s method, there’s no reason to do this routine using psych forces because you simply would just not use psych forces. With this routine, it appears that if your psych forces don’t hit, you fall back on the which hand to come to a successful outcome a la Colin Cloud’s idea. If you have Flux or know Timon’s method, you would just go straight into the which hand and not be restricting yourselves to the psych forces.
I do like the poker chip though. It will very much have that nice flow like Michael Murray’s BTL. |

It is a nice item itself... and you can use your own d....or device. Apart that, you could consider hiding a small flat ma...t in the golden foil underneath the chip. And then you could use also different and individually created chips; I have such, made at printerstudio.com... Jan

I like the thinking here. I like how compact this is but I wonder if it would be stronger to give the illusion that this is an endless set of choices. I realize the "which hand" creates a choice but might be stronger to make the force word itself appear to be a choice (for instance forcing a name from a list of 10 cities) as opposed to just saying 'Belgium? Cool there's also 'Paris.'

It is. It can be used... but I talked about (e. g.) a different chip without m...et, a chip you could give away... Jan

Oh, came to think about it, Jan...
I guess you meant that using an other poker chip, then you do the adding under the foil, not with the TOTEM. Right? Well, it might be better to think a while before you attack your keyboard... |

The Wizard Product demo of this basically counts as exposure.

You could (and should) deliver the process better than David Penn did.
There's a decent effect in there, but David's presentation did it a substantial disservice. |

I’m really not trying to think like a magician here, but I honestly cannot see spectators being impressed by this, especially for the long drawn out process and the reveal in my opinion feeling kinda weak with a okayish prop. Surely when people think about this they will see you simply steered them to choose your choice, not theirs because it’s not really a free choice in what they select. I’m trying to like this and maybe if by knowing which hand the chip is in was cleaner and cleaner for the spectators, possibly. But even then my honest opinion when they think and talk about it later will be the obvious in that they were led to chose the option they didn’t choose eg Paris - maybe. |

... And then there's that 'elephant in the room,' namely, repeatability--or rather, the lack thereof, at least to the same audience. Come to think of it, there are actually 2 such pachyderms here, the other one being a nice handout at the end--or rather, again the lack thereof. Unless you plan to let the spec keep the gold wrapper, which will almost certainly not survive being pocketed and taken home sans damage and ultimately be discarded. The souvenir really should be the poker chip, no? But of course it can't be, so.... While I'm not a big fan of forcing routines, I have spent my allowance on practically every Which Hand effect/gimmick out there--10 at last count, with some vintage Gauci props due to arrive in my mailbox any day now. However, considering the price tag, I think I'm gonna pass on this one.

I would like to clarify, I don’t think this effect would fall flat with the audience but what I am saying is that there’s a combination of methods here which I think overall weakens the effect relative to going down the route of just sticking with a single method for this (either just go with the BTL approach OR go with Colin’s Psycho approach). Using the which hand as the back up weakens the whole thing because it presents the same problem as bad equivoque does, inconsistency with the process. Will this be fooling? Probably. Will this be entertaining? Probably. Is this as strong as doing Psycho or BTL? Probably not due to Psycho and BTL having consistency in their process which prevents these possible moments of confusion due to abrupt change in process.

We got so used to not see an actual full demo of an effect that if we see one we think that it exposes the trick. And from a perspective of a buyer why should I not know what I get? Not even a performance? If creators are that afraid thet people don't buy the effect if they see a performance maybe it's not that good. This product gives you a poker chip prop as a revelation. If you want it get it. if you see the performance and decide that you don't like this process don't buy it. I think the performance is just honest because it shows how it can go in the real world. |
