Hi all! For a long time, I've wrestled with balancing the use of "visual" effects and practicality. What I mean is, oftentimes tricks that are marketed as visual or "like a camera trick", oftentimes involve the use of gimmicks or props that the audience directly sees but are not examinable. For example, Super Hole by Mickael Chatelain, or DistorTion by Wayne Houchin; very clever, very visual, very magical, but they can definitely scream "let me look at that box/card!"
I am aware just as well as anyone that good performance and audience management are key for tricks like these. So I am not asking for help in that regard. What I am wondering is, what tricks do you have in your repertoire that could be described as "visual" or "like a camera trick" that either 1) do not involve gimmicks 2) or if they do, they're inconspicuous or not seen. So for example, Michael Ammar's Coins Through Silk, or even a simple color change. |

My favorite penetration is a finger ring through handkerchief that is instantaneous, fully visible, under their nose, no gimmick and can be borrowed items.
Maybe I will publish it.

My favorite effect which I believe to be extremely visual yet entirely examinable is my rope and ring routine which is a combination of moves from Richard Sander's Fiber Optics and Willi Wessel's close-up ring and rope. I always enjoyed handing out the ropes and ring for examination before, and even better if someone asked to see them after. Alas, this was much better pre-pandemic when people were willing to touch foreign objects.

100% can be examined. Color changes are very visual. Here is the real question. Hire much heavy lifting do you want to put into the work? Because it all comes with a price. I’m not being obnoxious here I’m being serious. If you want effects with no gimmicks it use work and ac lot of it. Dice stacking is visual with no gimmicks and a ton of work.

Yes, Richard Sanders' effect "Fibre Optics" and also his effect "Turbo Stick" use no gimmicks and can be easily handed out for inspection.
Actually another well-known effect of his "Extreme burn" has a gimmick and cannot be handed out for inspection, but if you produce reasonably high-value bills, you are totally covered when you think twice about handing them out for inspection to those outstretched hands. |

Dean Dill's NANA's Necklace. Super visual when the ropes penetrate through the specs hand.
