When choosing the stack I wanted to learn, ease of getting into it was a top priority for me. I ended up memorizing the fifth position in the Faro rotation. I also like that I'm three shuffles away from new deck order. Although the bookend aces aren't ideal, the convenience of getting into it make it seem like this would be a stack that others have put work into. I was wondering if the stack has a name and if there's any resources on it I could check out. Thanks!

Michael Skinner used this, it’s explained in his book “classic sampler”. But he used it, exactly as you suggest, for the “new deck order” ending.
Another option that doesn’t have the aces issue is “numeric” order, ace through king in all four suits, red black red black. This makes the ace of hearts the top and the king of spades the bottom/face, which is a lot less suspicious when you show the cards. Alternatively if you want new deck order without the aces, you can do five out faros and then cut 26 cards, so the 5h is top and 5s face. Then to return to NDO you can do one IN faro and two OUT faros. You’ll still have the aces together in the middle of the deck, which is still maybe a problem but more manageable. Or you can run-reverse a few cards; I prefer the numerical order version myself, mostly because it makes more sense for laypeople and allows some other nice effects. A good site to play with is the faro simulator at http://robertjwallace.com/faro/ It’s easy to overthink these things though. Five faros on its own is pretty much perfect, with a cut. Other good sources for effects related to these stacks are the “stay stack” work by Rusduck and others. Hope some of this helps! Good luck with it |

Also fwiw this would be called a five faro, or “faro five” stack.

As a new guy, I've put the thousands of hours into learning the moves... now I get to do the fun stuff of learning everything I can do with them. There's so many options that it can be a little overwhelming deciding where to start. As far the alternative to new deck order, I've got to admit, that way sounds preferable, but I've put so many hours into getting "position 5" memorized with instant recall that I feel like I'm stuck with it for a bit... maybe there's room for another stack in my little noggin, I guess I won't know until I try.
