imgic Inner circle Moved back to Midwest to see 1367 Posts |
About two weeks ago we were getting ready to go to a Wedding, and I'd planned to do anniversary waltz for the couple. As we were in middle of a move, I'd packed a lot of gear already and realized I didn't have a DB Card. So I got onto Penguin and ordered a single DB card or $1.50.
Since I needed it quickly I was going to use Priority Mail, which was going to cost about $9. Seemed silly for one card, so I deleted it, and then ordered a whole deck of them. Then, saw they were offering free downlaod for orders of $30, and I always wanted Stand Up Monte, so I ordered that as well...shipping stayed at $9. I got confirmation email, and then, short time later, I got email with video of them packing my order. For giggles I watched it...and saw they packed a single DB card and Stand Up Monte. So I immediately got on chat and let them know. They were able to grab it before it left and repackage it. They even sent another video of it, and I saw a deck going into the box. 2 days later I got box with Stand Up Monte and deck of blank faced cards. Going back to video, you could just catch a glimpse that it was blanks as they packaged it, but would really have to look close. So back on chat...they apologized and sent a new DB deck out. Then I got an email confirmation for DB deck. And then another. I thought it was fluke. But next day I got a DB deck..but it was Mandolin back, not Bicycles. As I don't have any mandolin decks, they weren't any use to me. I ended up making my own DB and had wonderful time at wedding. Upon return, there was another DB deck waiting for me...also mandolins. I'm guessing they realized they made mistake after sending blank deck, and sent the DB deck out. Then sent another one out after I contact them. Also realized the blank decks were mandolins. I check what I ordered...the item I ordered was Bicycle Riders. So another chat and they checked my order and their website...yes, I was supposed to get DB bikes. I offered to send the 3 decks back...but they told me to keep them. And they're sending me my correct order... Sometimes technology can be wonderful and frustrating...

I swear there's certain train wrecks you see coming a mile away and there's no way to stop it.
There was a very specific part I needed for something, and I just KNEW the guy I was on the phone with didn't understand what I needed, despite him hurriedly dismissing me insisting that he understood. Of course, I receive the wrong part. Call them up and explain it again. Once again, they send me the wrong thing. Now I'm a week away from deadline and I need them to get it right this time. Deliberately and concisely explain to them exactly what I need. Have them repeat it back to me. But I just knew there was no chance they get it right... aaaand... they didn't, lol. Anyways, I doubt this a common theme with Penguin. I've been in their warehouse in Rancho Cordova. Not at all what I pictured a big dealer warehouse looking like. It wasn't in some dreary concrete industrial area. It was in a nice little business center loop. Lots of grass and trees around. It was big, clean and organized. The people there were all in good spirits and seemed competent. I was so impressed with them I even went and bought them a pizza before making the ten hour drive back home 😂 Edit: This has me thinking, they can have their warehouse literally anywhere in the continental US, it's curious that they choose to operate out of NorCal with some of the highest rent, taxes and regulations in the country. I'm sure there's a logical explanation for it... but at face value it seems odd.

How many magicians does it take to change a lightbulb? Regardless, for magicians darkness is a time for d'lite.
