For me, the main thing is that the copper and silver should match. Why pair a crisp uncirculated Morgan together with a soft, well-worn old copper (and/or brass, in a CSB set) — or vice versa?
I prefer all coins in an effect appear similar in terms of wear & tear, and of evident age. A soft old Barber strikes me as odd if paired with a crisp shiny new Chinese coin, for instance — as would a soft, dark chocolate brown Victorian English penny paired with a crisp shiny 1964 Kennedy half. But that’s just me.

I love the look & feel of soft coins most. 👍🏽
And TWOCAN here is the absolute king of these c/s coins, no one has a broader collection, which also includes whatever custom work your magical mind can think up. Just exceptional work from a really clever craftsman & heckuva nice guy. Glad to have him as one of our own here on The Café. 😊 *Highly Recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
