Socks - Michael Huot
$39.95 https://www.vanishingincmagic.com/close-up-magic/socks/ The Hype: Doing unusual things with unusual props is a guaranteed way to make memorable magic. That's why Michel Huot's "Socks" is the most arresting, commercial piece of mentalism we've released in years. This trick, destined to become a hit, is simple and strong in premise: you display two packets of cards with different sock designs on each one. You read that correctly: Sock designs on cards. How cool is that? You explain that the premise is that you will have two chosen, and you hope that the spectator can find the only perfect match. See where this is going? Well, keep reading because it goes somewhere very unexpected. The spectator turns over the two chosen socks to reveal they do NOT match at all: yellow stars on one sock and purple stripes on the other. But you then lift up your pant cuffs to reveal that you are wearing the exact socks they chose. This hits people hard, and comes as a complete surprise. It's not a card or coin or rope trick, either. It's a mentalism piece with an article of clothing, and it gets both gasps and laughs. "Socks" comes with everything you need, including the socks and specially-printed cards. It's easy to do and takes up virtually no pocket space. It is an IDEAL opener for walk-around performers. We have also included a bonus effect with "Socks". On the bottom of the special socks is a playing card reveal so that you can predict a chosen card. Update (July 2020) - When you buy from Vanishing Inc. you will learn an exclusive new handling by Liam Montier. This handling is ideal for virtual shows and is 100% reliable. The cards can even be shuffled by the spectator! Replacement Socks are available. Christmas and Halloween Versions also available. My Take: Saw Joshua perform this many years ago and, of course, he killed. This is more than just a cute little trick. It makes it easy to give a performance that people will remember. Instruction is via two downloadable videos. The first is by Michael Huot. a 35 minute video that walks you through setup and performance. The other is a 14 minute bonus video by Big Blind Media's Liam Montier and offers an easy routine suing a fairly standard handling. Of course, a force is required and you are taught several, with different setups, handlings and outcomes. The first is probably the most difficult as it uses a time force. If you are not comfortable with that, you are then taught a mathematical force that really doesn't look like it is. And, of course, Liam teaches you one of his favorites from the work of Karl Fulves. Socks comes in three versions. Regular, Halloween and Christmas. My version is Halloween and since Halloween has already gone by for this year, I had to do some quick thinking to tie it in with an any time performance. The socks are really attractive (read "cute") and have little spooks, spiders, candy, etc. printed on them. If this is for a kids' show, it will be no problem at all tying this in with things the kids like. Candy, costumes, etc. Although the Christmas version plays best during the season, a little creative thinking should set you up. If you plan on performing this year round, the original version would be best for you. The cards come in a plastic wallet that is much better quality than I am used to with my packet tricks. It also has the Vanishing V stamped into the front of the case. This will cue you as to which sides are left and right and the orientation of your cards. Very commercial routine that is easy to do and is real eye candy with no heavy lifting. Have loved this one for years. Really glad a copy finally found it's way into my case. |

Doing tricks can be easy, being an entertainer is much harder.
