But let me correct it here. You can get a direct hit with the same amout or even less fishing in “Inferno” ny Joshua Jay, and ID Named Card In Wallet By Steve Cook (if you use the Inferno ploy for the ID Named card……You only have one step in your “fishing expedition” before you are home clean with any picture card”). But they do have other limitations, e.g. You cannot hand out the card to the spectator, but I never had to, and nobody ever asked for the card. My preferred method is to use the Inferno ploy, but use the ID Named Card Wallet. I also love performing Inferno with the original method, and here you need two steps to get to a queen. Never been questioned by the spectator, because the script with burning cards is just perfect (IMHO). Works for me. Br Jan |

Hi Baldini,
A ultra clean direct hit without any fishing/pumping is "Bang On" by Marc Oberon, but then again, that has different limitations like 1) you can not show the envelope before you begin, and 2) you cannot hand out the card. Jan |

Just received The Prophecy. I love Giobbi, but don’t feel this piece is up to his usual excellence. I went back and viewed the promo from Penguin. They comment “freely selected card” and “give the envelope away”. These are both untruths, at least both statements require some magical effort. I agree one offs are anti climatic. My sense is the “off by one” requires some setup. I’m going with “ I’m going to show you something that I’ve been working on and the truth is it’s been giving me some concern”.
No problem with the large wallet, but honestly I would not have bought it if I knew then what I know now. |

It’s unfathomable to me that anyone would spend so much on a mini-suitcase looking wallet in order to perform a very mediocre effect at best.

I purchased it specifically for the wallet as it fits perfectly with my intended routine.

I just got one and I must say wait till you see how cheep the wallet is compared to the one he uses in the video. The one that it comes with looks like you can fit a deck of cards in it. I’m going to do a full live review next Wednesday on YouTube. I work full-time is Magician and I very rarely order tricks and I never do reviews but I felt compelled to do one on this one.

I have been playing with this for a week or so now and the effect to Lay audience is very very strong and I get great reactions. From a magicians point of view the wall it is too large and not made as well as I would hoped for. For the purest, the earth by one may not suit you. But I have found that I get equally strong reactions as a direct hit, it takes the spectators by surprise because they don’t see it coming. They expect the car to be a direct hit, in my opinion it’s a very strong subtlety. The big question is it worth the $75 ? If you’re going to use it then it’s worth it if not…

If you are looking for a subtle way to weave the off-by-one concept into a preamble for effects of this nature, I recommend watching Mark Elsdon's Penguin Lecture. He teaches Heirloom Redux and has a lovely little bit at the beginning which he can call back to in the event the effect ends "off by one".
In his presentation, it is the spectator that is off-by-one during a small moment before the effect really begins. Is it a perfect solution? No. Nothing is, these are all compromises, but it is a nice way to introduce the off-by-one concept and give it some justification that feels better than most in my opinion. Cheers. |
