Here is a performance by Richard Himber I stumbled across on YouTube while looking for something else. It is interesting that Himber is using more or less the same premise he used in his later appearance on Don Alan's 'Magic Ranch' , where he barges in and pretends that he has no idea there is a show already in progress . He acts as if he is just "rehearsing" a few ideas that might be fun to do on the show later.

This is from The Roberta Quinlan Show (Mohawk Showroom) broadcast on NBC, May 3, 1949.

"Rare kinescope of the first Roberta Quinlan Show on NBC. Morton Downey and Roberta Quinlan shared hosting duties through December of 1949, after which he left the show. Orchestra leader/magician Richard Himber also makes an appearance."

Himber's segment is from 7:30 - to - 10:30 in the video:

Thank you for these great videos. Has anyone compiled a list of all of Richard Himber's TV appearances and known video footage of his performances?

I think you're looking at most of it in the two clips above. For years all I ever knew of was his appearance on Magic Ranch. The footage from the Roberta Quinlan Show I found on YouTube quite by accident (searching for something else) and in the last few weeks have shared it to a number of magic groups and everyone has remarked they had never seen it before.

There is some brief footage of Himber doing a few card flourishes in one of his short film appearances as an orchestra leader in the 1930's, in the film 'Richard Himber: The Magic Of Music' (released June 17, 1935). See here , starting around the 0:42 - to - 1:24 mark , then from 1:30 - 1:55 he does a color changing handkerchief. The rest of the "magic" in this short film is movie special effects type of magic.

If anyone knows of any other film of Himber performing magic I'd be interested to see it.

I did notice that IMDB.com lists several more television show appearances by Himber in the period from 1949 - 1955.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0385375/#self

He may have performed magic in some of those appearances , but it's just as likely he appeared as a musical guest with his orchestra. However, one of the shows does specifically mention him doing magic:

The All Star Revue (TV Series) 1951 lists him appearing as a musician and as a magician. So maybe that footage from All Star Revue will surface. I note that the IMDB.com listing does NOT list his appearance performing magic on the Roberta Quinlan Show, so it is quite possible there are more obscure appearances by Himber from the early days of television where he performed magic.

Thanks! If the 1951 appearance was included in IMDB, my guess is that someone has seen the footage in order to list it (unless they are going off of a printed record, but hopefully its the former). Let us know if you find anything else.

Here's another film with Himber doing a bit of magic. This is from the Paramount Screen Song "It's Easy To Remember" (1935) . Himber is conducting his orchestra and the bored vocalist pulls out a newspaper to start reading it while waiting to go on ... Himber seems a bit irritated and takes the newspaper away from the singer . He tears up the newspaper, then restores it.

These shenanigans start around 4:24 - through - 5:22
