2021 was another solid year of great magic and mentalism effects that were released to the community... and now its time to vote for your favorites!

Who will win The Houdin and The Thurston awards for 2021?

The Houdin Award will be awarded to the effect is voted "Trick of The Year".

The Thurston Award will be awarded to a creator who created an effect in 2021 AND who represents the true Spirit of Magic (e.g. Great customer service, kind, and a gift to the community).


The rules are outlined below (same as previous years) though I would like to remind folks that if a creator wants to message their supporters to vote, their messaging should ideally encourage people to vote for THREE effects. This helps maintain some balance and avoids a popularity contest scenario.

To help to try to reduce any drama, let's try and keep to the following...

You must have 50+ posts on the Magic Café for your votes to count (The 50 post minimum must be achieved by the close of voting on MARCH 1ST for your votes to be eligible).

If you have been nominated and want to encourage your pals to take part... it is impossible to police or enforce a "no asking your clients, friends, etc to vote" rule and, personally, I think it's silly to ask people not to share their excitement. How can you have a contest if you're not allowed to talk about it?! On that note, I ask that you please...

- Don't offer financial incentives.

1. David Penn. Over the last several years he has released some great, proven effects from his act. He has done a tremendous job helping magicians sort the wheat from the chaff via the Wizards Product Review, entertaining us in the process. He has donated significant time to increasing The Magic Circle's membership with quality prospects. He has done a terrific job representing magic to the broad public on TV shows such as Britain's Got Talent and has helped others with their acts for these shows. He has put on stellar magic competition performances winning numerous awards. He has helped many magicians release their magic through World Magic Shop. And he has given terrific customer service and personally answers questions on Facebook and other channels. He has contributed greatly to the burgeoning segment of "technology magic", pushing the boundaries of innovation (e.g. Pi Revelations is arguably the most integrated effect in history being Incorporated into many third party applications). In a nutshell, he embodies the Thurston spirit.
