By controlling the language, Big Brother controls the way that the people think. With a limited vocabulary, the people are limited in how much they can think, as well as, what they think about.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Agreed. If you lack the word to express a thought, eventually you will end up with no thought.

Another way of looking at it: If you don't have the vocabulary to debate, you might as well lob a piece of concrete through a window.

So that’s why there’s so much looting and rioting.

Interesting idea.

I wonder if anyone's studied this.

Personally, I suspect that it isn't true; for example, I expect that babies can have thoughts before they've developed a vocabulary.

No doubt that language facilitates thought, but I'm not convinced that it's necessary.

By “no thought” I meant blindly accepting the status quo.

Okay let's play; Language lets us build up complexity, from:
Moving meaning,
Framing feedback,
Evolving a useful model,
Establishing indices and indicators,

SIGNAL2NOISE dial turned up

Yes that's what I meant.
Nope I won't read anything after the "x" reference.
It is what it is, so who needs a model?

Accepting the imposed with dumbstruck resignation.

A small number of big investors, control a small number of big Silicon Valley companies and they privatise words on their sites to control the narrative. That's the word on the street.

How are words privatized? And on what sites? Most communications pass through those big company routers...
Like the "n" word in America - as exclusive under threat of rancor?
Or words including democracy, rights, tinamen and youger in a different country?

I am not sure John. The Privatisation of Words in the virtual world is something that Julian Assange spoke about some time ago.

Actually, John what they seem to be referring to in that link above are trademarks.

See: The Trademark Tower of Babel—Dilution Concepts in International, US and EC Trademark Law. International Review of Intellectual Property and Competition Law.

Can one register a word or a phrase as a trademark and thus own it?

So someone like Julian Assange could use "truth, justice, and the American way" for other purposes now?

Changing how words are used copy/photocopy/xerox
Or context associated meaning (branding)
Works without legalities.

Some days you don't have to work too hard to read between the Lalas

In Kiev the power's on
La la la la la
TV blips false flag hints
Lalala la la la
Last year's Sandworm sequel?
lalalalalala!

Two vote democratic process (or cyberwarfare cools infrastructure)
News says republic Belalalala
So what's for dinner, lalala
Serving la la chicken Kiev
La la la la la

La la gas prices la
La la la COVID rates
Spiderman at the movies

So we learn to filter out the "lala"s and treat the news as weather. For better and worse.

What I find interesting is that this reads almost identical to most of your posts. This might be slightly more intelligible.

John tends to write like Picasso painted. Smile

John is suggesting, perhaps, that one can use lies to tell the truth: call the story fiction to get around the laws.

"We all know that Art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand. The artist must know the manner whereby to convince others of the truthfulness of his lies... I would like to know if anyone has ever seen a natural work of art. Nature and art, being two different things, cannot be the same thing. Through art we express our conception of what nature is not."

Picasso approved this statement made in Spanish to Marius de Zayas, before it was translated and published as Picasso Speaks in The Arts. New York, May 1923.

I remember, during "The Apprentice," Trump tried to register "You're Fired!" So no one else could use it in a commercial sense.

I also believe Marvel and DC own a joint copyright on the term "super-heroes"
I remember when I worked (briefly) at Marvel, someone suggested suing the producers of "The Greatest American Hero," because they'd used half the term!
I DO remember Marvel trying to sue a theater group which called itself "Spiderwoman," as they had a character named "Spider-Woman" and felt people would be confused. The theater group's argument was that "Spiderwoman" was a Native American goddess and the name had existed long before Marvel created "Spider-Woman." Further, one was one word, and the other was hypenated. The courts agreed with the theatre group.
