"Take THEM for example. Their sleight of hand isn't all that impressive, their presentation is obviously inexperienced, and without the specific camera angles, it probably wouldn't look all that good. Therefore, I don't consider them very good magicians."
Do you know who the magicians behind THEM are? Have you seen them perform anywhere except on this television special? Do you know anything about them outside of what you might have learned from this television special? Judging a performer based on one television program is not great. What are you basing your opinion on? |

I'm basing my opinion on what they did on TV. It's all about the attitude. Bottom line, they turned what could have been a truly mystical experience into a string of practical jokes. It took all magic out of it, and judging by that I don't think they're magicians. For more on this check out the works of S.H. Sharpe on the differences between tricksters and magicians, you'll understand what I mean.

I had not heard of this before I saw it on this forum. Does anyone know when or if this will be rerun?

Magic is magic, regardless of how you do it. Aren`t we supposed to be entertaining? The show was about as entertaining as you could get! Of course it was big time and had a lot of preperation behind the scenes, but you have to admit it was "shock and awe" for the viewing audience, whether you were watching it on t.v. or in person.
People in my office were talking about it and shaking their head in amazement, in other words they enjoyed it. I admire the purists skills with cards & coins etc., but that is another form of magic & can be just as entertaining. Why don`t we just enjoy our brothers & sisters in our art doing their form of magic as we would like our form to be enjoyed. Let`s support them, not critize them. Do I have to say it? Leave the Blaine`s, Angels & T.H.E.M. alone! :>) Let there be more magical entertainment in the world. John

I enjoyed the show also and my daughter is still talking about the "flies in mouth" routine. I felt sorry for the girl in the elevator who ran screaming from the building but was glad she got over it -- she must have had to signed a release.
Thank you MISTER E for your post. I wasn't aware of the members credentials but I did catch that one of T.H.E.M has the same last name as one of the producers. Nah, probably just a coincidence. |

I still haven't seen it but several people recorded it and all of the laymen that I spoke with "raved" about it. Kind of a Mission Impossible for the reality folks in reverse.

I thought it was very enetrtaining. Plan on watching it over again. One thing it did for me was re-ignite my intrest in bizarre magic and magic that looks real. For some reason over the years we seem to loose the "off the cuff" look when we perform. I've started doing things I did years ago that were simple but impressed people. We'll all hear negative things about the show just like we did with David Blaine and even Copperfield's specials. That's ok. They did something right: they thought of, wrote, performed, and SOLD the show. Yes, there may be people out there who are "better" in one way or another than those we saw on TV. But we shouldn't take away the thunder from the ones who worked so darn hard to get noticed. If anything I think this inspired me to work harder and bring out some new "old" things and get back to the reason we all do this in the first place: entertainment and mystery.

Is there anyway to see this again? I missed the first half and wouldn't mind watching the full show.
And for the gentlemen above who asked where can I learn some of those color changes? I know of one called 'Zapped' You can buy it from a variety of different shops.

Doila,
I'll mail you my copy of it. But I actually enjoyed the show. I was looking forward to it. I was dissapointed that the commercials took a majority of the time. But all of T.H.E.M are really good individually. Their website. http://www.magicxlive.com. Doesn't have much on it but short biographies of each of them.
