More great wisdom for folks new to magic, from Hugard & Braue's classic The Royal Road to Card Magic:
"We reiterate that there is a vast difference between doing and performing card tricks. Since your primary purpose in performing sleight-of-hand with cards is to entertain those who watch, it is not enough that you should achieve technical perfection alone." (p.xvi-xvii) Then follows a section which emphasizes the importance of using patter and developing a good presentation. This isn't just true for newbies, but is something essential for all of us to keep in mind. |
