I heard Its gonna cover a wider range than Forte's dvd's... its basically gonna cover all the moves that's in Forte's, Turner's, Otriz, Wimhurst, and even the 2 Josephs that released video's... I believe its gonna be a 10 dvd set... as for the release date, mabee Jason would be able to answer that..

Hmm, thinking about how easy it is to get a hold of Daryl's other DVD's on the internet, this actually makes me abit sad...
I've gotten the impression that Daryl wasn't that interested in gambling, as he stated in Encyclopedia of Card Sleights: "I don't use this technique much enought to master a fine brief" (Second deals) and now he is coming with a 10DVD set on gambling? Hmm, confusing

I don't know what I think about Daryl making a cheating video. He always seemed to be focused on quantity rather than quality. Should be interesting to see how well it does.

I agree with Andrew. You should do it properly and seeing the price than gambling items carry these days you could get good money out of it as well as open recognition for your moves.

"All the sleights on Steve's tapes can be found on Daryl's Complete Encyclopedia of Gambling Sleights DVDs. It hasn't been released yet, but you should wait for it."
Thanks for that Jason. I would not want to buy the Steve Forte tapes, or any other tape, just to see how good the cardician is and become another admiring fan. The spectator does not learn magic by being bamboozled by a great magician he only learns that the magician is good. There is nothing wrong with them that would buy them for that reason. I look for the things that teach. These tapes were produced to show casino surveillance staff how to spot crooked moves, were they not? That is not the same as showing them how to do the crooked moves. The purpose of these tapes is not to teach, as I understand them and this might be the reason they are not on DVD, as DVD is a far better teaching format in my opinion. Those who buy the tapes will no doubt enjoy them but if they become far better cardicians through the experience is the question. This can be answered by buying them. So, on the recommendation of the guys and dolls here, I will buy one of the series and see what I think. This I hope will cause halleluiahs and bells to ring throughout the land.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Hi Tommy,
A good alternative is 'Darwin Ortiz On Card Cheating'. This video is specifically geared towards teaching gambling sleights and can be purchased here. http://www.elmagicshop.com/cgi-bin/webc.......51690.a7 I think it might be worth a look. Regards, Paul H |

The ortiz video is not a teaching video.
It does exactly the same as the forte vids. You'll probably learn more from the forte tapes. Maybe I shouldn't say this due to earlier posts but ' Get both'.........aarrgghhh!!!!! Im gonna wait for the DVD only though.....lol..

You are a bad bad man kukram!?! The sheer volume of it all. But yes, when I went back for a second look at the Darwin tape, I could find no mention of teaching. The wait is on for good old GPS...three weeks to go apparently.

The Ortiz video is not a teaching video but it's great. All the basic tecniques can be found in other sources where they explain them in detail but the good thing of these "non-teaching" videos(they do teach a lot) is that you can see those sleights mastered to perfection and you can compare finger position, timing... The section abouy mucking and switching cards is great.

If you like the ortiz hand mucking demo's, you will love vol 3 of the forte tapes.
His palming is effortless and no hint of there being a move. He has a couple of great card steals from the deck. I mentioned in an earlier post about one of his cops from giving the deck an in the hands riffle shuffle. That will fly past your magician pals It has been said that forte held loads back! We can only dream........ How about vol 5.. Breaking the Mechanics code. The hustlers biggest secrets finally revealed. He could even wear a mask!

You are wrong. Sorry, there is no other way to say it. By watching other great sleight of hand artist we can learn, not just admire. Especially in the gambling techniques it is important because we need to know how the things should look. Remember, unlike in magic tricks the gambling moves must be completely natural and normal. While everybody is waiting and wanting the DVDs of these tapes, and several others, they should also understand that there are certain economical factors to consider. It takes a lot of money to make DVDs (yes, even if nothing is added but merely old material packed into a new format). Why would anyone make DVDs when they still have tapes in the warehouse? And are there enough purchasing power left to make them financially feasible? |

Neither the GPS or Darwin's tape actually teach the moves, but it is ridiculous to think that you can not learn the moves from these tapes. It just takes a little more thought to disect the moves compared to watching ever little finger placement on an instructional video. I'd go as far to say that every one of these five tapes, each has far more learnable material from them than the most jam packed teaching video.

I mentioned in an earlier post about one of his cops from giving the deck an in the hands riffle shuffle. The move you're referring to belongs to Allan Ackerman. It can be found as "Master Move Action Palm" on p. 59 of Allan's Las Vegas Kardma. Allan and Steve are friends and Allan gave this move to Steve for inclusion on the GPS. Now you know the rest of the story. Quote:

The Forte tapes are great. Are the George Joseph tapes available? Is this the same guy that is on The Discovery channel?

Has anyone seen the Michael Joseph series of tapes, made for casino personel? They sell for $300 to $350 each. There are about 10 different titles.
