Hi guys. I would just like to know if you have found anywhere that I could buy a Tarbell or similar style egg bag. I always seem to find all these new style ones with mesh and stuff but I always like to try the classics first.

Martin Lewis sells a very well-made egg bag. The "Senor Mardo" egg bag.

If you go to this link:

they have a RealMedia video file of Martin Lewis performing a nice short routine with the Senor Mardo Egg Bag. From what I have read the Tarbell Egg Bag and the Senor Mardo Egg Bag are very similar. I have the "Senor Mardo" from Martin Lewis. I would recommend it very highly.

Samuel Patrick Smith at has just come out with a very good looking Tarbell Egg Bag which comes with his routine. His routine is also available on VHS tape and in his book, "Kiddie Patter and Little Feats". I don't have the bag, it's new, but everything he puts out is of good quality and it is the type of bag he uses personally. I have a Malini bag which is very deceptive though some would say a little more difficult in the handling. I've seen Martin Lewis do his routine with the Senor Mardo egg bag at a lecture and would agree with David that it is top notch also.

I have to add my endorsement of the MagiKraft (Martin Lewis) Mardo Egg Bag. I prefer it because it's nearly impossible for the spectator to accidentally hit the gaff, as sometimes happens with Malini-style bags.

Also, it's the only trick in my show that kids request by name!

Besides, with name like Henning, I HAVE to do an Egg Bag!

I have an egg bag. I don't know what type it is. What are the different types and how can you recognize them?

The Senor Mardo bag is not a Tarbell bag. It's almost a Tarbell bag but this ain't horseshoes. The small difference is that the Mardo bag's gimmick is closer to the top of the bag while a true Tarbell bag is closer to the bottom of the bag. I have found that the Tarbell bag hides the egg better--and again this is my opinion--because the secret area is larger because of the lower placement of the gimmick. Since the Mardo bag's gimmick is closer to the top, the secret area is smaller and hence hides the egg less well. In other words, there is more of a tell tale buldge. The Mardo bag is beautifully made, however.

Oh, my friend we're older but no wiser, for in our hearts the dreams are still the same...

Their Tarbell bags are made by Pauline Tong, wife of Dan Tong. I started with a Magikraft Mardo bag, but much prefer the Tong Tarbell bag. There is a problem with the Mardo fraying at the pocket, while the pocket of the Tong bag is stitched. I've used the Tarbell bag for close-up, platform and stage work - works well under all conditions. That's one tough Tarbell bag!

Peter Dimond, who makes all the big illsions by my way used to have a very nice egg bag with netting in the corner they were really nice to use. Shame he doesn't make them any more as I think they were the rolls royce of egg bags.
