Does the Magic Castle have anything related to card magic? I know it does, but what kind? Do they teach cards? What would I have to do to get in?

Teen-
You have to be 21 to actually get in. However, on Sundays and special nights they let under agers in. There is a junior magician program and classes you can take. See that site mentioned above for more info.
Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and Tommy Emmanuel are all you need to study to learn to play guitar.

You can join the Jr program if you are under 21. It's great for the younger magic freaks. Those jr members are all very talented.

Teen - I encourage you to start your magical career at the Castle as soon as you can. Be humble and willing to learn. And take criticism with a smile.
I started visiting the Castle on Sundays and during the week (when the Castle was closed to the public and at the invitation of Bill Larsen) when I was still a teenager. I felt like a "nobody" (of course, I was a "nobody") and was very shy. But I wanted to learn. As a result, the time I was able to spend with the likes of Joe Berg, Dai Vernon, Kuda Bux, Charlie Miller, Senator Crandal, and Lou Derman is something that can't be replaced. At the time, I did not fully appreciate the gifts of their time and knowledge each of these gentlemen gave me (in fact, Joe Berg was the one who groomed and sponsored me to join the IBM and audition for the Castle). In retrospect . . . well, I'm sure you can imagine how I now feel about my time at the Castle as a teenager. You will find the Castle members of today just as giving and approachable (yeah, I've read the stories here - Vernon was approachable and between him and Charlie Miller I learned a lot). Above all else, enjoy yourself. The Castle is a marvelous place! |

You really met Dai Vernon himself!!? Wow! Umm, I don't know if this is a bad time to bring this up, but I will be living 8 hours away from MC. I don't think I'll be able to go there repeatedly.

Where do you live? Are you close to Glendale? You can visit Dean Dill's barber shop, where the likes of John Carney, Shoot Ogawa, Monte Smith -- and other -- meet regularly and at any time you will find magician's in "the back room" practicing, learning and teaching. (Wednesday's are my days there)... he also give great haircuts. Look on his website.

Teenmagician14: The Magic Castle junior program is an excellent program for young magicians. You are only required to go to meetings once a month. PM me for more information.
If you're 8 hours away, there's Misdirections Magic Shop. |
